Power on Issue

Recienty the system will not start without cycling the psu power. If I try to start without cycling, the LED for ram power comes on... but no other LEDs (CPU/etc). Once I cycle the PSU and the LED turns off (ie. PSU is off for a few seconds) then the system will start fine.

I've looked for a short without sucess. The only thing I haven't done is remove the board completely from the case. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

William

Edit: computer seems fine once it is warmed up, it will shut down and start up fine... just once it cools... then it must be cycled again.

Replace your PSU. I think the capacitors are dried out and only work well when warm.
NO I'm NOT kidding.

Buy an Enhance ENP-5130GH 400W for <$60 or a ENP-5150GH 500W for< $70 via Froogle.
Both are http://www.80plus.org/ certed.. Enhance>>>Fortron 😀
Review of the ENP-5140GH at http://www.jonnyguru.com/

*WARNING* If you continue to use a failing PSU...Other hardware could be damaged,
like killing a HDD 🙁

You could do some reading or ask over at http://www.badcaps.net/
Look at pics of failed caps 😀

When you replace the SmartPower..Open it up and find failed Fuhjyyu capacitors.
Opening it up will kill any remaining warrenty. Generally it's three years.

A friend of mine just had this same problem and by coincidence, I happened to find this thread. The PSU was swapped out and all was well. Thanks, Galvanized.
