I have a 7950gx2, 4400+ amd x2 939 ADV not ADA, 4 hd's 2 dvd's and about 7 fans plus the asus a8n-sli deluxe board. Im thinking 500 may be to little? I was thinking the antec phantom but its only in 500watt. Please let me know!

 
Sweet that was the fastest response! Ok I filled it out, and without overclocking it says 480Watts, can anyone recommend a decnent psu in case I want to overclock? I didnt know how to add that into the equation. I would love one of those psus that you can plug in only what you want. There was an advert for 580watts, the seem super cheap though. I would love something quiet and cool since my vid card will already be loud lol.

yea you should def get something over 500w. tho wattage can be very misleading. an important thing to look at when looking to buy a psu is the amperage(A) on the 12volt(V) cables. its good to have at least 20A on the 12V cables, more is preferable. a good idea is to search the forum for psu threads, lots of threads on "Sparkle" "Fortron" "Antec" "OCZ" <- all of which are good brands. just dont get pulled in by advertisments and a good place to start looking at the psus (perhaps not buy there, tho their prices are great) would be at www.newegg.com

well i know 100% nothing about psu's for extreme gaming. So reading newegg wouldnt help much, hmm Ill do some reasearch but any specific psu's would be fab.
 
well people will generally say what they think are good psus, also if you look under ppls posts, not mine i dont have one, but ppl have their comp specs, thats a good place to see what others are using. but ill see what i cant scrounge up

ill go up to about 160ish if needed more, i just want my machine to run and the ps to last longer than 2 months lol. I checked on newegg for antec and they dont even have more than 550watters.. i was thinking about the phantom, as I said before but its only 500watts 🙁 but that was 170ish so im willing to go that high. And if its possible i need one thats semi quiet and has plugs that can be taken out if not used. That would be a big + since there isnt alot of room in my case anymore after that 7950gx2 got there
 
ok, plugs that can be taken out is called a "Modular Power Supply". and 500W should suit your needs, but 600W should be good just to be save. 160 should be more than enough for a good psu, but good choice, do not skimp on the psu thats for sure, usually the first thing to go in a system.

one thing tho, modular PSUs may be slightly larger, more expensive, and not as much selection. not that its a bad idea to do it just that there are those things to take into considerations.
 
enhance 0560g, enermax liberty 600w, seasonic s12 600w if you want quiet... all are very good, first two are modular.
 
seasonic - Up to 150W is provided on the 6-pin PCI Express Graphics output - asus themselves stated I need min of 200-240 watts to run the pci-e card i have.
enermax liberty - can only find the 620watt version, seems like it doesnt come apart and looks loud but the power looks alot better than the seasonic esp on the 12v=22a seasonic=18a
enhance- found nothing on it .. 😛 yea i know im lame
 
next time i reccomend planning all the parts out in advance. but as that time has come and gone - ur graphics card must require a ton of power being a dual card why dont u try searching for ppl that also have your graphics card and see what psu they are using. like maybe a graphics benchmark on a website.
 
i mean really i have a psu but its only a generic 420 watter, tried it, and i get no video lol so yeaa.. post error beeps for no vid slammed me 😛 thanks to your calculator i know why at least lol.
 
so none of those psu's mentioned above do more than 150watts on the pci-e? ack
I thought this was a benchmarking site as well, and most people call me noob and tell me to buy an xbox so id rather not post to the gurus
treat me like im a noob, when its just this issue im having(yea its noob but still) 😛

 
found some guy running a 550W Antec truepower with ur card and it runs fine, so theres a starting point, a psu we know will at least work

well, the pci-e is supplied by the 12v rails. The enhance has 18,16,18,18amps on those, the enermax has 22 on both of its 12v rails and the seasonic has 18amps on both 12v rails. Oh and I forgot to mention another good one... the fortron epsilon 600w with 15amps on all 4 12v rails. The ocz gamexstream is the exact same thing as this, maybe cheaper though... not modular... either of them.
 
cool at least it runs the card but id like to know his setup, i have 4 hds 1 cdr 1dvdr 6 fans and the gpu/cpu 😛 but thank you very much for that starting point. Can you direct me to where that person is or mabye shout out the persons specs 😛
 
yea a lot of the stuff about amps on the 12v is bull$hit i know, and i just did a google search for "[your gfx card name] power supply" and found a bunch of websites
