I have both. the 6750 is sitting in the package.
I'm just doing web browsing and simple word/excel.

it's almost summer so I'm thinking of swapping out the 4850 for the 6750 because of the 20% lower power consumption (and less heat output).

1) will it make a difference in power consumption since I'm not taxing the 4850?

2) and how does a 128 bit card run as fast as a 256bit card?

See here for a power consumption comparison between the 5750 (of which the 6750 is a rebranding) and 4850, among several other cards: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_5750/28.html

- idle: 6750 consumes 1/3 as much power as 4850
- peak: 6750 consumes 3/5 as much power as 4850

At low loads such as accelerated browsing, the ratio is going to be somewhere in between. On average the 6750 is basically half as power hungry. Not only does the 6750 make sense for the heat output, but it will save you dozens of kW worth of power per year if you use the PC a few hours every day. It performs slightly better too, in case you do happen to do anything taxing with it.

Definitely the 6750. It has way lower idle power consumption.

Both are complete and utter overkill for what you're doing. If you're really serious about bringing down power consumption, use either the IGP or if it's an older model get something like a HD6450/GT610.

I'm not even going to debate 256bit vs 128bit memory bus here, because it's completely irrelevant...

interesting... replaced the 4850 with the 6750.
both have 1gig dd3 memory.

Windows Experience Index rated the 4850 as 7.3.
the 6750 is 6.7

With DDR3 6750 have only half of memory bandwith contast to 4850/6750 GDDR5. DDR3-version are pretty much rip-offs as they don't perform even close to their GDDR5 counterparts.

You won't notice any difference for Office apps, the newer card will have much lower idle clockspeeds and idle power draw, as well as temperatures. I doubt it will clock up to full speed for more than a few seconds when initially opening web browsers.

apparently, yup

256bit 4850 ddr3= 128bit 6750 ddr5
but 256bit 4850 dd3 > 128bit 6750 dd3

irony: I bought the 6450 at the same time as the 4850.
the 6450 was to be the backup. saw the 6750 on sale for $29.95 after rebate and bought that because a 128bit backup card is better than a 64bit backup card for gaming.
used the 6450 for my parents computer even tho their 3450 worked fine for their needs.

now for the irony: I stopped gaming shortly after I bought the 4850.
