Hi all,

I would like to DIY a PC with the following config:

- Intel Core2Duo E6600
- Asus P5B-E
- Corsair DDR2-800MHz 1GBx2
- Asus EAX1950Pro x 1
- ATA100 HDD x 6 (ranging 120GB~200GB)
- SATA2 HDD x 2 (320GB)
- no need for the floppy and DVD-writer (just use external USB ones in order to save spaces for the HDDs in the case)

A bit overclocking may be done but will not try to push too much. So, fan-based CPU cooler and a few chassis fans will be installed.

So, what power consumption range of PSU should I look for?

Thanks in advance.

400-500w from a good brand should be well more than enough (seasonic, fortron's FSPXXX models, enhance, pcp&c, enermax, etc).

There's actually a really useful website where you can select which parts you have, and it will show you approximately how much juice your machine uses. I can't for the life of me remember the link, so maybe someone else here will be able to provide the link.

I have had excellent results with the Enermax Liberty 400  it is so quiet you can't hear it and my system is on and folding 24/7 on both cores.

Thanks all for the info, esp the power supply calculator John gave. It shows me how oc can affect the power consumption so much! This is what I haven't think of before.

Recommended power supply for my PC is 312W.
When I hook up a watt meter, it uses up to about 200W at the wall.
