power calibration error

bof

Junior Member
hi guys! i have a samsung CD RW and i'm using nero 6. each time i try to burn a cd i get a "power calibration error" at 5%. i tried reinstalling the driver but i didn't change anything.

yes, try using a slower speed. Also some system specs might be useful, especialy PSU..a cheap or generic PSU could cause that problem..

thx for the replies. i was able to burn CDS at 52x, 48x, and now it just stop dead . I didnt use it for about 1 month too, but i don't think it could have fvcked my burner. i tried burning at lower speeds like 30x but...u know what happened.

i have a "passo" psu or noname if u want, i dont think it's a good brand, i didnt try other media make. but i dont think these 2 things could resolve the prob. because i have been using this rig for 6 months now, an it worked well till yesterday

It could still be the PSU, as components can degrade over time, but it may just be that your drive is going bad.

Also there seems to be a lot of people having problems with samsung burners on this forum..

Specks of dust in just the right place in the optics could cause this. Pull out the CD-R drive, take the cover off, and dust it out with canned "air." Use short, careful, low-power air bursts around the laser eye area, as the focusing mechanism is fragile. Assuming it's not bad media (easy to rule out) or a PSU problem (more difficult to rule out, but if you're not experiencing other stability issues, don't jump to conclusions), this is the average user's best hope for fixing a malfunctioning optical drive.

i dont thing the psu is faulty because my system is stable. i think i'm gonna exchange it, the warranty still valid, i was just too lazy to remove the piece of sh!t (aka samsung CDRW)and bring it to the shop. and this is not the first time i have probs with it, grrrrrr... samsung!!!!!!!!! anyway thx for your time guys.
