power cables touching things..

i recently added some fans to my case which rearranged my cables a bit and they dont sit the same way in the case, ive heard of people taping up their power and ide cables because they get in the way of things which i rather not do if the cables don't hurt, but is it dangerous in anyway for my power/ide cables to be touching things like my vid card or sound card? and they are not in the way of any fans. thx..

i wouldn't worry about it. they have plastic around the connectors, so they don't really touch anything. mine are all over the place and it's fine.

thx^^, also are the wires themselves ok to be touching, like the side of those wires on my vid card etc.?

certainly. they've got a nice plastic coating around them.

as long as your PSU cables aren't blocking airflow, they can hang wherever they want

Just make sure you bundle up any loose wires so they don't get caught in any fans.

yeah, if they get caught in the fans, you'll regret it (as I know from personal experience!)

i think its a safe bet that the cables aren't able to come in contact with anything really hot...basically, just make sure nothing gets in the way of the fans. the only other reasons to tie up the cables and wires are for aesthetic purposes and to keep the cables/wires out of the airflow. for example, you don't want a jungle of wires/cables hanging out at the bottom front of the case if you have an intake there since it would essentially block the cool air from circulating

The lowest temperature rating for wiring insulation is about 60C (all but the smallest wires are marked for this - check the tiny print), but almost everything in a PC is rated for at least 80C and can safely touch even a fairly hot heatsink.
