Every now and then I think about how great it would be to see a sequel to Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Such an awesome game, a PC classic in every sense of the word. Today I thought about it again. I own a copy of Giants on CD and another copy on gog.com. I went searching for Planet Moon Studios, the geniuses behind this amazing title, as well as Armed and Dangerous, which was also great. They are still around. Unfortunately, I don't see a Giants sequel in their future based on their site Careers page:

"Planet Moon Studios, a leading independent developer in San Francisco, CA, seeks team members for a high-end performance game for the Kinect & Wii based on a world-class, non-violent, real-world entertainment IP that appeals to mass-market consumers, particularly women."

Big sigh.

This is one game I never got around to playing. I see that GOG has it for $6.

Worth it? I wonder how well (or bad) it has aged.

A big Thumbs Up +10 to a sequel...it is loooooooong overdue.

Graphically, it was well ahead of its time. The humour of the aliens is great, and combines a lot of different types of games (action, strategy, Role Play, etc.).

This is one game that often gets replayed by me. It had a good blend of humour - British with the "u" :p

The two characters named "Gorden" and "Bennett" get me every time I see that cutscene...

Giants is one of my favorite games, and I'd love to see a remake.

Back when it came out, I (and many others) was still on dialup, so I think that hurt it's multiplayer, but even @ 300 ping it was a blast. For those that don't know, you play on a huge map with 2 bases, and use your jetpack to fly out into the battle area and grab peon-like NPCs to build stuff in your base.

The kicker is the Giant. It's huge, and while the 2 other players are working to build up their bases, a 3rd player controls the Giant, doing things like belly slams that deforms the terrains and kills enemies. So much fun.

I know that Giants: Citizen Kaputo was a technoligical masterpiece for its time. If I could find a copy for under $10 I'd grab it in a hard beat.

I don't think I ever beat Giants, but I still have the install CD on my shelf. I think that's telling me something!

Big sigh.

So, basically, they make Facebook and social network games now? :( Thats quite the fall.

I've had it on my wanted list over on GTZ, but haven't came across any great deals to warrant that in a trade.

THAT game was a lot of fun. I never played the campaign just the multiplayer.

I was usually that water race. Another friend was the mercs, and another was the GIANT.

The Merc would build up his base almost completely and the friend playing the giant would come in and belly flop his base back to the stone age until the Merc friend would throw a fit.

The friend that played the giant got unhumanly good at avoiding the slow time weapon. After the first few times he was always able to jump just right so only his toe was stuck in the slow time field… and he would quickly get away.

Great fun.

Epic game, the campaign was great fun, TIIMMMMMMYYYY!! :awe:

Multiplayer on gamespy was good too, i used to always hide the gyropad from the rest of my team then go solo kabby with my lone gyrocopter, epic fun :D

Mecc vs mecc games were fun too, very competitive sometimes. Proxxy missile + advanced jetpack ftw! Some of the super pro types used shield and rocket instead but i could never get used to that.

I played this game since it came with my GeForce 3 card (Yeah - FLASHBACK!). I never could get into it though.

Heartening to see such support for a great old classic that so few people played or even heard of at the time of its release. Still have my copy, can't seem to part with it even though it's been years since I played it.

I remember playing an old demo of a game around this time that had an interesting premise as well. Took me a while but I found the name: Evolva.

I loved Sacrifice and played it endlessly when it came out. Loved the gods council.

I played through Sacrifice as recently as last year. It was actually every bit as addictive as I remembered. If someone would release a sequel to Sacrifice I'd snap it up so fast...

Agreed, this game deserves a sequel. Not only was the gameplay ridiculously fun, the graphics were cutting edge and the voice acting was hilarious.

Another +1. Giants was fantastic. I replay every few years. I'll have to snap it up on GoG. I think my dics have just about had it.

Its actually the only game where ive been able to competently fly the helicopter. Controls are much easier than other games where i crash in the first 10 seconds of flight, looking at you battlefield series!

I found another old game that I remember a bit fondly the other day, Dominant Species. It was a 3D RTS (released the same year as StarCraft 1) made by the same company that created the original Rainbow Six games (Red Storm). It was an interesting game where you would fashion your own creatures using DNA that you collected. In some ways, it's like being the Zerg and assimilating different species. :p
