i drive better when high. its been proven over a decade where the only near-accidents ive been in have always been while i was sober (usually trying to read political signs, or looking at scenery). when im high im happy just keeping my eyes on the road.

You just don't notice the near-accidents when high.

... Moreover, there are several legal over-the-counter medications or chemicals which certainly alter a person's state of mind from one of strict sobriety but for which there are no prohibitions from driving while under their influence.

I dunno... I see the warning about not driving after using such and such a medicine frequently enough that my impression is that they are a little TOO liberal with that warning. Because it's illegal to use it against it's label's warnings, it's a prohibition.

I live in Italy. Drive was not Italian but from Morroco. Bigger issue here is: 1. He'd lost his license 6 months before for speeding and other offenses and should not have been driving period.

There is only one reason for this accident and it is a drug called testosterone. The cure, of course, is castration. Young men are immortal assholes who are brain dead to anything but the excitement of risk. The Romans got rid of them in the gladiator ring. Now they are getting rid of us.

Man, I thought the NZ guy hitting three motorcycles (with his grandkids) while drunk was bad, this one ups it.

Yeah, I thought the drunk, on duty, Indianapolis Police officer hitting a motorcycle and killing the two passengers was bad.

Oh wait, they intentionally mishandled the arrest. He wasn't drunk.

I don't think that guessing morons who take drugs kill more people than texters is "insane BS"...

actually, it is.

you aren't taking into account the resources needed to actually drive and operate a vehicle in public, and how the hierarchy of such resources are compromised in your two subject pools.

think about this: vision + concentration.

--texters: use neither of these very, very important resources while texting+driving.
--someone who is high: use both resources 100% of the time (though for the second--concentration--not to the greatest effect, obviously)

actually, there have been a few studies showing how MJ does have less detrimental effect on driving than does alcohol.

there's even more studies showing how cell phone use (hand-free or not--they are identically bad, actually), are much worse than driving drunk. Also, texting is, by far, the most dangerous form of distracted driving.

it really doesn't take much of a mind to simply think about and compare these two, and realize the issue.

You seem to not be concerned with such thoughts. just general ignorance, I guess. :\

I guess I just haven't spent any time with drugs in my system and you have...

Twenty-eight percent of traffic accidents occur when people talk on cellphones or send text messages while driving, according to a study released Tuesday by the National Safety Council.

ah, so you're saying that you arguing from your admitted lack of experience is somehow more relevant than my argument from direct experience?

interesting.

YOU'VE NEVER DRIVEN ON

alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, day-quil, sudafed, claritin, etc, etc, etc?

No your right, I have, but I was referring to illegal drugs, sorry should have been more clear.

:hmm: OK I was wrong about this one, in the US of A more people die from mobile phone related car accidents than for being drunk / on drugs.
