I'll second Flexicon on this one. As far as I know, this is the first time I've heard about this with my years buying from DDD. I haven't heard of this over at DVDtalk.com forums either.

The RightStuf is awesome. They got a huge selection, and have always been reliable. The only reason I don't order from there much is that they're usually expensive. This is a great deal, though. Thanks!

They've also got a coupon (THAWOUT) good for 40% off all CPM anime that expires tonight at midnight.

I also wanted to chime in that RightStuf is legit, if a bit slow, so the Gasaraki set's definitely not a bootleg. It's not a misprice either: the CEO personally posts weekly specials on AnimeOnDVD.com's forums, and he specifically pointed out the Gasaraki set. When the sale started he said they're selling 'em cheap since they're doing inventory soon and he wants less boxes to count.

At a minimum it'd be good for trade at a place like Coconuts or Gamestop. I got double my money in trade recently for the cheap anime dvds that Overstock unloaded a couple of months ago.

A month later, I haven't resolved this with DDD, 'cos they INSIST they only sell legit DVDs, and I'm not about to just send off $80 (well, actually, before discount more like $150) worth of DVDs back to them in hopes they exchange them properly. In fact, I have the local Police, Better Business Bureau, and a laywer involved, and still no response.

..and it's damned sad, too, 'cos the rest of the shipment was cheap, legit copies. Ah well.

Just be careful.

I've also been buying from them for years. They've only sold legit stuff. The gold dvd doesn't always mean that it's pirated. I've had several legit gold dvd's. The gold one are usually the 9.4GB capacity one. I'm not sure what the double-reversed label thing is, but I'll continue shopping with them since I haven't had any problems with DDD.

DVDEmpire says retail is $169.98 and is selling it for $135.99 (also on order).

Prices aren't THAT far apart. ;)

I got in on this deal a couple of weeks ago. DVDs are legit from original manufacturer. (ADV i think).

They are usually dual layered. Dual sided would mean you'll have to flip them over. Single layer holds 4.7GB and they usually are the silver bottom one like CD's that you buy from the stores. Dual layer means it can hold another 4.7GB which totals to 9.4GB.

Ugh, RahXephon's a horrible series. It's Eva done crappily.

I like EVA too, but you have to admit it has one of the worst endings in history. Even if you ignore the actual TV series ending and look at the EoE ending, who wants to invest hours into a TV series and then have this depressingly bleak end.

Give credit where credit is due. RahXephon is the only series yet to do EVA anywhere near as good as EVA does.
The ending is fitting for Eva (and the movie and series ending are the same freaking thing! why does no one get that?). In case you missed the entirety of the series, it is bleak. Just like life. If I wanted a happy ending, I'd watch the latest Disney movie instead.

Just out of curiousity, what the heck is Anime all about? Seems to be some type of Japanese cartoon for adults? Seems like the only time I see Anime pictures is when it's porn related and there is some type of Bukkake involved.

Kind of surprises me that there are that many adults interested in cartoons.

BTW, I'm not ragging on you guys, just curious as to what all the fuss is any why it's so popular? I would think that if people are so interested in porn then they would watch real pornos instead of cartton pornos.

I did watch the series in it's entirety and do understand all of it including how eps 25 and 26 relate to EoE. I choose my statements carefully to avoid spoiling it for anyone who reads this thread and hasn't seen EVA yet as it is an experience.

I just felt that the ending was a cop-out. No person, no matter how messed up in the head they were, would wish for that end. IMO, he would have created a RahXepon-style ending since all he wanted was to be happy. Considering the power that he had (through another) that was within his realm of possibility.

And by RahXepon-style, I mean one where everyone lives happily-ever-after and not necessairly the same specifics as occur in RahXephon. This is even alluded to in ep 25(?) in an alternate-reality short animation.

Anime is a (usually) teenage to adult oriented story presented in the form of a cartoon because it allows for things that would not be possible to achieve with live actors or would be cost-prohibitive.

The pornographic anime and manga (comic) are referred to as Hentai. Why is there pornographic anime? Same reason there's softcore porn on TV here in the US. People want to watch it.

Good non-Hentai anime to watch: Cowboy Bebop (action-drama), Love Hina (romance-comedy), Ai Yori Aoshi (heavy romance, some comedy), Boogiepop Phantom (*), Neon Genesis Evangelion - EVA (Big robot-ish action-drama), FLCL (Weird rock action comedy).

*Boogiepop Phantom is a out-of-order serial anime presented in a similar form to Pulp Fiction. Think Pulp Fiction meets The X-Files.

animation is a way to tell stories, just because its animated doesnt mean its for 10 year olds. the medium is not the message.

Geh, Ai Yori Aoshi?! Very ecchi. I wouldn't call it good either. It seemed too much like a rip-off of Love Hina.

The Kenshin OVA Trust & Betrayal is quite good. Definately worth watching.

I thought Aoshi had a great, if a little sappy, story. Sakura Diaries, now that's ecchi. :)
