This could be potentially a blazing hot deal from Animeondvd.com! Righstuf.com is selling the Gasaraki box set for only $29.99. That's just over $1 an episode! The only catch is that currently the product availability is 8-10 days, so, a bit of patience may be required to get it. I had to wait an extra week or two until they shipped, but I got it for that price.

Gasaraki Box set for only $29.99!

never seen this series . . . how is it? I presume you're fans of it . . . I've watched and enjoyed trigun, cowboy bebop, berserk, evangelion, escaflowne, and serial experiments of lain to name a few . . .

likewise, is this series along the same lines? Also, are the dvds actual DVDs, I've pucharsed anime dvds before but quality was way below dvd quality.

Wow, sweet price. Just ordered 1. Thanks!
It's kind of wierd, the 6-dvd boxset is $30, but they are selling the individual dvds for like $20-something.

IMO this series is a 'grown up' version of Evangelion; as far as quality - definitely top-notch. Ordered this set when the deal started, at least 2 wks ago. For $30 - a steal.

I dunno. This sounds a little too good to be true and may well be counterfeit.

DVDEmpire says retail is $169.98 and is selling it for $135.99 (also on order).

Prices aren't THAT far apart. ;)

Nope. Right Stuf is an official ADV Films distributor. Plus, I can verify it's legit as I have a matching box on my shelf.

Gasaraki just isn't that popular. It isn't bad, it's just too similar to EVA.

its going for roughly $50 on ebay. This boxset is about 1 year old (series is 4 years old) i think and when it first came out it was about $125 ish.

For those wondering about this series, I personally hated it. I thought it was very confusing with names places, events, etc. I only finished watching the series really only for the sake of saying i watched it. I don't really know why some things happened and it was just really boring.

But for $30, i wouldn't mind having it ;)

Amazon reviews here. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but the price is so good, you could watch it and turn right around and eBay it to get your money back.

Why can't Ranma ever go on sale like this!

If you're into the Big Robot and confused protagonist storyline and you've already watched EVA, I'd recommend RahXephon. It's a little pricier than Gasaraki, but it's very cool. Ending also works much better than EVA's.

I think I'm going to start up an Anime to watch/own thread in OT.

All true, though Gasaraki started well and was good except for the weak ending.

Right Stuf is one of the oldest anime sellers in the US, selling long VHS and LD long before DVDs came out. They just have a few insane deals every week on overstocks and closeouts. You can find out the deals and coupons of the week (usually announced Thursday) by going to www.AnimeOnDVD.com .

Ugh, RahXephon's a horrible series. It's Eva done crappily.

I like EVA too, but you have to admit it has one of the worst endings in history. Even if you ignore the actual TV series ending and look at the EoE ending, who wants to invest hours into a TV series and then have this depressingly bleak end.

Give credit where credit is due. RahXephon is the only series yet to do EVA anywhere near as good as EVA does.

RahXephon was more stylish, serious and mature than EVA, with a much less annoying protagonist :)

RightStuf is a very legit retail shop. Many anime fans on most of the popular webboards buy from Shawne and crew. Personally I've given RS many hundreds of dollars over the last couple years.

Gasaraki has been on sale for a while at RS at about double this price or so, off and on. I figure he probably just over purchased the sets and wants to turn them.

I agree with what most people are saying. Gasaraki isn't probably in my top 10, but it's in the 2nd tier somewhere. Was well worth the $60 sale price I paid for it, so half as much is an even better steal. A lot of people are reselling these on ebay, so don't use that for a price comparison as it's been going on for a few weeks now and the price is deflated.

Right Stuf not legit? Hahaha! That's funny. They are a publisher also like ADV. They have release shows like Dangaizer 3 and Kare Kano aka His and Her Circumstances that is known in the USA. Maybe they aren't big like ADV, but at least they have a couple of titles under their belt.

I'll just chime in that Right Stuf is legit and that Gasaraki isn't too great, but for $30, it doesn't hurt to buy it. For those who don't mind older dubed only hacked series, they also have Robotech for 2.99 per DVD or 9.99 per box set.

The only problem with Right Stuf which no one else has mentioned yet is that they are slooooooooow. Mainly because they oversell products, but they do get them out to you.

I've always gotten stuff from them pretty quick. However, I was a little suprised at the wording in my latest shipping confirmation email:

"We are pleased to inform you that your order has shipped. Unless we contact you regarding a problem, you can count on your shipment leaving our warehouse within the next 2 business days."

Not what I would call shipped. I think for most of us, "shipped" means it's on the truck, it's out the door, it's on the way. Not "Well, it's ready to ship, but it's still sitting on the dock for a few days."

Just a minor quibble though. Have got lots of great stuff from them at insanely low prices.

Be careful folks...I hopped on that massive 20% off deal with DeepDiscountDVD (and spent WAAAY too much :D), and ended up with several obvious pirate copies of DVDs (Gold DVDs, double-reversed labels on the inner circle). A month later, I haven't resolved this with DDD, 'cos they INSIST they only sell legit DVDs, and I'm not about to just send off $80 (well, actually, before discount more like $150) worth of DVDs back to them in hopes they exchange them properly. In fact, I have the local Police, Better Business Bureau, and a laywer involved, and still no response.

..and it's damned sad, too, 'cos the rest of the shipment was cheap, legit copies. Ah well.

Just be careful.

Monkey, that's the first time I've ever heard anything like that about DDD. Not that I'm calling you a liar, but da-yum, I've been ordering from them for years and have had nothing but excellent service and top-quality (legit) merchandise. What are the titles of the ones you believe are fakes?
