I just got an email from AMD telling me that the AMD / Microsoft Tech Tour will soon be in my area. I went to www.amd.com/techtour and found details on a great deal on AMD64/Mobo/XP x64 edition. Here they are:

Desktop Bundle - Price = $250

Edit: Just to compare I priced the server bundle from NewEgg at $1,012!!! (S2882G3NR not S2882-D at NewEgg)

Only catch is you can reserve your bundle online but must attend the tech tour to pick up. I'd highly recommend going though because I went to one of these things in Boston and my friend I went with won a free processor. Probably 25% of the people who went got something decent like a top of the line processor and almost everyone left with a free t-shirt. Check it out!

I'd like to go to the Chicago event but I'm leaving for Canada the next day and it's not exactly close. I can't really afford $250 for new parts anyway.

Yeah, I'd love to get in on the first combo, but the registration process leads me to believe that you have to be affiliated with a company.
 
i just registered for the dallas event, does anyone know somehow what version of windows 2003 server it comes with, like the standard version with 5 licenses?

Sweet...they're coming to Tampa. Would that Opteron setup be good for a desktop/gaming rig? This is very timely cause I was just shopping for a AMD64 system and was going to spend $400 on a 3200+ Venice and MSI MB, but for $100 more, if it's worth it, I'd just pick up this bundle. Or, I could save a few bucks and go with the other one.

ALso, anyone ever been to one of these before? Is it an all day thing? Do you just walk around, or do you have to sit and listen to a lecture all day?
