Potential Hot Deal on AMD CPU/Mobo/XP x64 Combo

I just got back from the Dallas show. It was about a 135 mile drive from where I live.
One of the Amd guys said they had about a 3x greater response than they thought they would and sold out. He also said the Atlanta, Dallas and Houston show attendees will probably be able to order bundles at a later date (and have them shipped to you I guess).
Overall, it was pretty much like I expected. The main show presenter was a pretty funny guy.
The hotel provided all the food. There was lots of stir fry and rice, sliced beef (too tough to cut with a fork, and I didn't find any knifes), cheese tortellini (good) and some kinda pasta (also good) and lots of chocolate chip cookie snacks.
I picked up the server bundle and I'll be building the system after I get some sleep.

By the time I got there, they were putting the food away and they were getting started. I had to wait until the end to get my server bundle. I was half asleep throughout until darth vader came out.

I'm going to be attending the July 1st presentation in Sunnyvale, CA. I have a severe lower back injury and there is no way I could sit or stand for the entire show. I'd like to ask for some advice regarding attending the show - from some of you who have already been.

I do want to pick up my desktop bundle, but want to know what presentations to sit in on and which ones could be missed. I can only tolerate a couple of hours there (at most) and wouldn't have a problem skipping the dinner. What?s the latest you would recommend getting in the show and what order are the events in and how long they take?

I'll admit that the desktop bundle was my incentive to attend the show, but I'd also like to use the little time I can spend there wisely. I've got an hour drive each way to the show too, and the whole deal is going to be murder on my lower back (I have a 4th major back surgery coming up). :frown:

Anyway, if some of you pros would be kind enough to help me out on how best to get in get the bundle and take in the "must-not-miss" presentations, I'd be very grateful to you.

James

PS: I am in the (small) systems builder field - just starting. High quality and low volume would sum my business up best - but emerging technologies are essential to my business plan so I am interested in any show presentations that might be of help to my company.

lol damn i guess they do the darth vader thing on every show. They did that at the tampa one too, it was stupid....

I was also in Dallas @ the AMD Tech Tour today with 3 of my co-workers and we just made it home about 45 min ago. I was one of the 4 people wearing a black shirt with Computer BYTES on the back.

I was not at all impressed with the vendor turn out, and those parting gifts (hub & headphones) were a joke IMHO. We already knew what the freebie at the end were, and since we rarely win the cpus or other goodies we left after eating the gratis dinner.

The good news is that those that attend the Dallas, Houston & Atlanta venues will still be able to order the special combos. 🙂

.

Does Anyone know what that email is??? Please Post. Thanks!

Due to the popularity of the AMD/Microsoft Tech Tour 2005 Desktop and Server Bundles, we are currently out of stock. Please check back in a few days for availability - we are working with our partners to increase the number of bundles available. Your patience is appreciated.

I am planning to attend the NJ (the very last) show on July 21.

I will have trouble taking a lot of time off from work it being a Thursday.

So my question is, what is the absolute latest I can walk in to the show to pick up the bundle & also have the chance at the prizes/giveaways?

They might be BSing! Even if they are not, I hope they can friggen have em back in stock by the Irvine June 27th event, which is the one I am going to.

DAMN, how can they be out of stock!? They are the manufacturers...

It's probably got to do with saturation in the market. Many numbnuts are buying several bundles and selling them off to ebay or here for a higher price, but which is still way under retail value.

Ex: 2 x opteron 246 for $250~$300 on ebay compared to $600-$700 from retailers. Im sure the stores wlll be complaining because this is undercuting their business. Too much of one thing makes the price go down, which is bad for almost everybody except the bundle sellers.

They all have it but they just want the ebay and forum whoring to subside.

Simple demand / supply economics.

IMO those selling their bundles just to make some profit are despicable. I would buy the bundles for someone that needs it for the price of items plus shipping. No more no less

Does anyone know of a good motherboard that will be compatible with the Opteron CPUs that will let me use my AGP 6800gt and non-ECC RAM?

Many motherboards are compatible with ECC and/or non EDD memory. Heck even my 4 year old DFI-AK76-SN can use both, though AGP boards will start to be come rare. I'm sure DFI has some boards (I like their company, never ah dany problems with them)

DFI LAN PARTY AGP

I hope they are restocked before the NJ event. I'll goto it if I can get the opteron deal as I could really use it for my games' hosting server. The other board is nice too though I'll pass on it and build my own rig, even though it'll cost a bit more.

Which CPU? AMD 64 3200 S939?

For agp you'll want the MSI K8N Neo2 platinum mobo probably.. or pretty much Any NForce3 250g motherboard like the MSI..

Whoops, my B.

Was talking about the Opteron 246's.

I doubt you can use Non-ECC with Opteron due to the integrated memory controller. Chipset has nothing to do about what RAM you can use in A64, and I believe it works same for Opteron.

AMD Exec Assistant: Sir, we just got word that.....
AMD Exec: Spit it out already.
AMD Exec Assistant: I'm sorry....it's just....it's something really horrible....I...
AMD Exec: Just tell me.
AMD Exec Assistant: Okay. Well, it seems some cheapskate on a message board may build himself an Intel system if we don't give him one of those heavily, heavily discounted bundles meant for system builders that we were offering for an entire two weeks and he somehow missed.
AMD Exec: *Spits out coffee* Is this true!!!
AMD Exec Assistant: Yes, sir. Although, secretly, we think he may be bluffing and could be intending to sell the bundle for a quick buck on Ebay. But we can't take that chance.
AMD Exec: Shut down the plant. I want everybody in my office now. We have to divert this crisis at all costs!
AMD Exec Assistant: Already done, sir. We've also contacted both Bill Gates and the President of Asus to alert them to this potential disaster. Bill is one a jet right now and should be here shortly.

LOL, if only that was a true conversation! NJ is 4 hours away for me so I was holding out, but guess I waited too long....Might have to follow in your footsteps if they dont post another deal!😉

LMAO...class "A" comedian.

1st of all, I was intending on building on Intel until I was this kick ass deal
2nd of all, I hate Ebay and would not waste my time buying OR selling it there along with possibly hundreds of other people with the exact same bundle trying to make a quick buck.

Now let's all give Hero a big hand of applause for his funny joke

We now know that you have no taste. You don't know that comment is incredibly funny, and that it would be better to go with AMD anyways. Ah well.............a.

Does any know, how they are doing this? Vouchers? I live in Houston and it takes place today, just want to know if I'm going to be wasting my time!
