Wait, isn't that HAL9000?

Did she not call the cops at all after the incident? I'm very pro-self defense, but if you stab two people in your home and then don't call the police that's might suspicious.

A man killed while allegedly breaking into an Erie medical marijuana house this week was actually shot, and not stabbed, as the suspect in the case told investigators.

In a case that continues to change, the Weld County Coroner’s autopsy report states that Kyle Dust actually died of a gunshot wound and was not stabbed. The number of times he was shot and the caliber of the weapon have not been released.

The woman arrested in the case, Karen Elaine Cordova, 47, told police and sheriff’s investigators that she stabbed the two me who were allegedly breaking into her house in the early morning last Saturday.

The other man, Stephen Erikson, remains in the hospital n critical condition from stab wounds. He was able to run from Cordova’s house to a friend’s home in Erie, where the ambulance and police were called.

Dust was found dead in Cordova’s yard, and she said she stabbed both men in self-defense.

But Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez said Thursday that the autopsy showed the gunshot wound to Dust. No weapon has been found in the case, and Cordova didn’t report the incident to Erie police.

Arrested on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, Cordova is expected to have formal charges filed against her today.

jlee:

Your post does not surprise me. I've seen a lot of stories about people being charged in self-defense cases that seem outrageous at first glance, but when you dig deeper there's much more going on.

Meh. I have no sympathy for home invaders. Shot in the house, shot on the lawn, shot in the back running away, I hope they all get a little going-away present, damn thieves.

Yep. You'd almost think that the investigating police department has more information to work with than the local reporters do.. 😛

"The law allows deadly force in your home or business, if there is a reasonable belief that the person breaking into the house has already committed a crime or if a crime will be committed," University of Colorado Law professor Ann England told the Greely Tribune.

Well... if they broke into her house, isn't that a crime? I don't see how she loses this.

People here are so retarded when it comes to the justice system. She was arrested, and will most likely get off due to state laws.

Edit: Just read the new information. Makes sense now.

Colorado has medical mj, so she could have been following state law with her indoor garden. Her arrest is probably because of the fishiness of her not reporting it and lying about the stabbing. She should have just called the cops afterwards.

It almost sounds as though it could have been some kind of setup or retribution she is passing off as self-defense, or she's just batshit crazy. How does a nearly 50 yo woman stab two men in their early 30's nearly to death (or shoots one and stabs the other so grievously)? Like they may not have been expecting it, or she ambushed them (after some kind of setup or ruse).

The part they left out was the 60+ stab wounds...each.
I don't see how the murder charge could come so quickly unless it was obvious that she meant to kill them.

From the initial story it sounds like obvious self defense and protecting yourself and your home. There might be more we don't know about though. Maybe a "drug deal" gone bad or something, who knows.

This,
castle doctrine ftw, there's gotta be more to the story for the DA to press charges.
