When you receive mails from businesses, have you noticed the barcode consisting of combination of long and short bars? The purpose of barcode is to make sorting easier for our postal system. If you're an approved senders such as a utility company, you get a break on postage by printing 9 digit zip code and postnet barcode.

When you print out envelopes on MS Office, there is an option named "delivery point barcode" that adds Postnet barcode corresponding to your delivery zip code. When you use nine digit zip code, it represents down to subdivision of delivery address and postnet barcode can be decoded into zip code. Machine can tell down to subdivision of street the mail is going to and all delivery person does is delivery to the right house number. Is there any reason I should enable this option or is it simply a waste of toner?

I have it enabled for now, because I feel that adding a barcode that allows a machine to sort the destination down to subdivision of a street reduces errors and lost mails. It's just a feel and I don't know if it actually makes a difference.

It's not going to use much toner, & the added accuracy (and potentially speed) of delivery is probably well worth the miniscule decrease in pagecount you'll get from a cartridge.
