Posting job listings on Cragslist.

I am about to begin the hiring process for an opening that just came up in my department. The HR person I am working with asked me if I wanted to post the listing on Craigslist and it has caused me to pause and really think if I want to do that.

So of course I decided to come to ATOT and ask your opinion and/ or experience with job listings on Craigslist. For some reason I feel as if I will just get a bunch of weirdos applying, but maybe that's just because I'm used to all of the silly Craigslist posts here.

depends on the field. a friend of mine that does set design said it was the best ever. i personally have not looked at the job section seriously.

I had applied to a job on craigslist about a year ago when I graduated and got an interview within like a day, so I was impressed with the turnaround time compared to using the job search engines. It seems like a more direct approach and almost to me seems as if you would get less weirdo responses because its so easy to hit apply on those job search sites compared to a little bit of work that may go into a craigslist response.

It's a medium-level accounting/analysis type position.

Interesting point about the job search sites.

I guess I shouldn't worry too much about the weirdos anyway, since I have HR screen the applicants first.

I work as a Developer Support Engineer in C/C++ analysis at a company in the bay area. Last 2 out of 3 jobs that I had, I got out of CL. In fact when I landed the current job that I have, I had 4 offers from other jobs. All of which were advertised on CL.
But then this is the SF bay area. Here, CL is used very heavily.

I just did a phone interview for a position I found on Craigslist. The job would be doing a whole bunch of mechanical and chemical development for a start-up that's still in stealth mode, so it could be interesting.

Used CL when I got my first job.. didn't for my current.

I found my current job on craigslist. Leave a company email or person to contact and you'll get serious considerations. It's not reassuring when you just leave the CL email.

I guess it depends in the area. I posted an ad here in Los Angeles for a quickbooks bookkeeper job and received over 50 responses. I scheduled about 15 interviews, only 3 actually showed up. We wanted to give the job to a person we interviewed, but she didn't answer our calls or return our voice mails. So, I am still looking for a candidate. I think i'm gonna us monter, or hotjobs.

I posted an ad for an entry level temp job. We basically offered a handful of the applicants the job and asked them to come in. None of them did..

Same here. Its definitely a good resource for finding jobs, not the best but good.

Ok, thanks for all of the responses.

I guess it sounds like a reasonable thing to do. I can't imagine Vancouver is that different from California as far as Craigslist acceptance goes, I've just never used it myself for job posting or searching.
