Just a short post on the subject of posting to forums. Nothing new, just my slant. I've noticed that some of the P&Ners get a little emotional when responding to posts of other P&Ners. Posting is not like being involved in conversation, as you are basically blind when communicating in a forum. All you see are the words from the keyboard. There is no access to facial expression, no observation of body language, no knowledge of the sort of emotional state the other poster is in. This is a pretty bland and flat means of communication. Things that would be heard in conversation and ignored or understood to be in humor take on a life of their own in a forum, mostly a negative life. People who post here are pre-biased to a view of life and society. Here, they are sometimes testing their preconceptions; sometimes they are merely seeking a podium. I pretty much kick my ego into a closet when coming here. That saves it a lot of bruising. We fling insults at each other, sometimes in earnest, sometimes in jest. That is a part of camaraderie and is often seen in places where people gather. Nothing to become upset about, yet the occasional poster does get upset.

I actually have a lot of friends that are Democrats and liberals and I respect them for their views. I slam those same views here and often as I see done to the conservative views. I wouldn?t do that with my liberal friends because they are pretty sensitive and can talk tirelessly when aroused. I don?t even know the people here; neither do they know me. I?m sure that we are all pretty centric. Maybe Steep and Moonbeam are exceptions. Don?t know them, can?t say. Be opinionated about what we type, not about us.

My bottom line: Relax, this fun - enjoy it!

Translation - C'mon you guys. So what if I'm a dick and troll now and then. Lighten up. I don't really mean it. I'm only kidding.

Gaard's response - I think you'd feel more at home in OT with others more like yourself.

I thought the posters in OT said the turkey farm was here!

I like the suggestion that the liberals are the ones who get emotional. If anything, it's the neocons and zealots who get bent out of shape more easily. And most of the ad hominem's come from conservatives who like to say things like, "why do you hate America so much" when all you were doing was criticizing US foreign policy.

In summation:  to you and your posting history.

Amicably back at you.

Of course you are relaxed and enjoying.

You're Republican and in control with your fellow Republicans exerting the Republican Agenda and belief's destroying a once Mighty and Proud Nation.

Glad you're enjoying the destruction.

Shhhh..... he's going to find out about our Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (TM), our 9/11 Conspiracy (TM), our War in Iraq Conspiracy (TM), our Fox News Brainwashing Conspiracy (TM).

DMC, you must live rather unhappy and paranoid life having posted 15,366+ messages about RRR RRFLL LRRFLRR conspiracies.

Condor, yup, I've got liberal friends as well - had a blast this past election rubbing it into them. There are different levels and different groups of friends.

For sure!

OT is really the forum for you, plenty of targets there to sharpen your talons on. I suspect that temperamentally you feel above them, that you don't want to go splash in the shallow end of the pool; but you should go get your cheaper thrills there, then come post something more substantive here.

My guess is that your far more intelligent than your emotionally one-note posting style would indicate, but who knows? You post like a bigger "liberal" kid pushed your face in the mud as a boy and you're still trying to get even for it. It's consticted, predictable and ultimately annoying -- with an unacceptably low S/N ratio.

Your experience and you ability to express yourself indicate you could really post some more thoughtful and nuanced views, thought provoking stuff that would be worth reading. But, like I said, who knows?

So, again, my advice is to conquer your "elitist" tendencies and go cross rhetorical lances with the kiddie knights of the keyboard in OT and then come back here and show us your better side.

Because no one likes a troll.

The question, of course, is: Why would I bother. Experience has taught me that the ones who talk the most understand the subject the least. Therefore, I try to be brief.

Amen - not to shock the anti-christian left - just a figure of speech. TLC, the anti-verbose stuff I post does not refer to you. Your stuff is always worth a careful read.

Never thought I'd say this...but with emotional folks like you posting on the board, P&N could really use more policy wonks.

Heck I get upset sometimes if I am having a bad day or something but it's not personal. It's politics.
-This is why you are not supposed to talk about this stuff at a dinner table.
But I don't usually eat at my keyboard nor am I going to have a big hippie group hug with a
fellow American who is condoning the actions of a administration causing so much pain for others in the world. (including some I am personally connected with IRL.)
Respect is earned not handed out with lipservice about us all getting along.

How about something different? Try assuming that quite a number of good people voted for Kerry, and that a number of good people voted for Bush. Once you internalize this, it will make it easier to have a civilized debate on policy. You can go on and on about this Administration causing pain in the world, and I can counter that the Left's policies in this country and around the world assure the lower classes remain in perpetual poverty. We can tussle over this all day.

Just cast your emotions aside for a change.

That is overly broad and wrong generlization of the Left.

There may be some or quite a bit of Anti-Christians on the left but for most part from what I have seen more that they would like the Christians to stay out of Government and forcing their beliefs on everyone that is non-Christian.

Look at what happened in the Tsunami region for example and the Red States forcing Intelligent Design Teaching and banning Creationsism.

I'm all for less anti-Christian pro-evolution/anti-creationism threads if it results in less anti-gay, anti-sex and 'Christian-USA' threads. Religious based debates is a serious waste of time.

What other advice were you talking about?

Pretty brief compared to some of the (scroll some more) postings I've failed to read here.

What does it say when you have to compare yourself to him? By all means, I concede that he's emotional. But then, I stopped watching Hannity and Colmes, O'Reilly Factor, Crossfire and other shows of that nature ages ago. Folks like O'Reilly are not bad people, just intellectual lightweights. Talk radio is better, and yet I moved beyond that as well. <Anyone remember Bob Grant? Holy Tuesday, did he piss people off!> I prefer to read news and opinions.
That said...

1.) Hannity doesn't post here. You do.
2.) Assuming Hannity is as emotional as you imply he is, well...if you're half that, it's not that assuring. If you're less excessively passionate than him, it doesn't make it correct, nor does it make your arguments more plausible.

Well.. that's true in real life. There's nothing more unsocial than a conversation about religion or politics. Well.... unless you're surrounded by people who wholeheartedly agrees with you. Then you just have a bunch of people becoming more polarized which is equally bad.

unsocial? how much i've learned from PN!!! forced to google so as to have a better understanding of the subject at hand. so much knowledge aquired in the last 8 mos! maybe nitwit idiots are content with "oh, how's the weather?", but i find a discussion about (differing) religious/political stances (barring any person attacks) to be very stimulating, educating, and fun.

It's difficult to have fun with people on a forum about politics and news. The simple virtue of it is people are expressing their life views, and it's just irritating when you think their POV has no more merit than a delusional raving lunatic who had a frontal lobotomy.

Anyways, what fun would it be with everyone tirelessly repeated the phrase "I respect your views, and I hope you respect mine. Let's sit here and respect each other's opinions, even if we both secretly think the other person is out to destroy their world as they know it"
