Posting in P&N

Just a short post on the subject of posting to forums. Nothing new, just my slant. I've noticed that some of the P&Ners get a little emotional when responding to posts of other P&Ners. Posting is not like being involved in conversation, as you are basically blind when communicating in a forum. All you see are the words from the keyboard. There is no access to facial expression, no observation of body language, no knowledge of the sort of emotional state the other poster is in. This is a pretty bland and flat means of communication. Things that would be heard in conversation and ignored or understood to be in humor take on a life of their own in a forum, mostly a negative life. People who post here are pre-biased to a view of life and society. Here, they are sometimes testing their preconceptions; sometimes they are merely seeking a podium. I pretty much kick my ego into a closet when coming here. That saves it a lot of bruising. We fling insults at each other, sometimes in earnest, sometimes in jest. That is a part of camaraderie and is often seen in places where people gather. Nothing to become upset about, yet the occasional poster does get upset.

I actually have a lot of friends that are Democrats and liberals and I respect them for their views. I slam those same views here and often as I see done to the conservative views. I wouldn?t do that with my liberal friends because they are pretty sensitive and can talk tirelessly when aroused. I don?t even know the people here; neither do they know me. I?m sure that we are all pretty centric. Maybe Steep and Moonbeam are exceptions. Don?t know them, can?t say. Be opinionated about what we type, not about us.

My bottom line: Relax, this fun - enjoy it!

I like the suggestion that the liberals are the ones who get emotional. If anything, it's the neocons and zealots who get bent out of shape more easily. And most of the ad hominem's come from conservatives who like to say things like, "why do you hate America so much" when all you were doing was criticizing US foreign policy.

Heck I get upset sometimes if I am having a bad day or something but it's not personal. It's politics.

OT is really the forum for you, plenty of targets there to sharpen your talons on. I suspect that temperamentally you feel above them, that you don't want to go splash in the shallow end of the pool; but you should go get your cheaper thrills there, then come post something more substantive here.

My guess is that your far more intelligent than your emotionally one-note posting style would indicate, but who knows? You post like a bigger "liberal" kid pushed your face in the mud as a boy and you're still trying to get even for it. It's consticted, predictable and ultimately annoying -- with an unacceptably low S/N ratio.

Your experience and you ability to express yourself indicate you could really post some more thoughtful and nuanced views, thought provoking stuff that would be worth reading. But, like I said, who knows?

So, again, my advice is to conquer your "elitist" tendencies and go cross rhetorical lances with the kiddie knights of the keyboard in OT and then come back here and show us your better side.

Because no one likes a troll.

seriously, i dont agree with condor on many subjects (political, that is) but thats no reason to attack the guy in a thread like this.
i get aggrivated about a lot of the things that are going on now, but there is the matter of tactfully approaching these subjects. no one will consider your legitimate arguments if you are going to step in and rage at someone in the middle of a sane thread.

I don't believe there is a "tactifully" way of accepting the tearing down of the U.S. as a Mighty Nation not just in Military might but in all ways possible. Now it is a follower in all areas except Military power, how long before that is gone as well?
