This, along with the lack of a task bar showing all windows, has annoyed me with OSX.

I kinda like their cascade button. I think its F9? It arrays the window across the desktop and you click the one you want.

Expose... a great feature that I wish MS would copy. I've tried add-ons to get that functionality in Windows, but it's not as good. I think it needs to be built in to the OS.

the task switching in aero does that well enough for me.

there are some good ones for vista that utilize the new interface to do live previews/video in the thumbnails....need a fast comp though

Expose > Flip3D anyday. F3 I believe for my MBP. But you can't freaking FULL SCREEN a FF window.. Ugh.

With the exception of playing video, I'm pretty sure I had that functionality many years ago with an add-on for Windows 2000 or XP. But that isn't close to as useful as Expose. Expose essentially tiles a smaller version of all of your windows with their current contents - all windows are visible at the same time, and you can choose one. Seeing all windows together > seeing one window at a time.

i have a faux apple, and i don't notice anything strange with the + button..... i do want to get a fake apple keyboard so that it'd look like i'm really using a mac.

I've only noticed the weird maximize behavior in handful of apps (Finder ), firefox and mail and 99% of all other stuff maximizes the expected way.

A co-worker told me about this several days ago and i was like WTF, that is one POS design paradigm. SOunds like simple stupidity along with the menus that dock at the top.

I know when dealing with my papers, I always tear the TOC out and toss it to the upper corner of my desk so they are ummmmmmm in a logical place!

The only reason to maximize a screen is on something like a small laptop with low resolution.

My 30in dell display combined with my macbook pro 17in, it is a complete waste if I went with maximize. I have multiple applications open and viewable all at the same time. Even without my 30in monitor, the 17in laptop runs at a resolution high enough that makes maximize a complete waste of screen real estate.

My applications maximizes to the whole screen. I also prefer the expose, which brings all of my windows in front of me to choose. With the taskbar, it gets really cluttered and then they tile all programs in a box that I have to read the title to know which one I want. I like seeing my windows to choose (I never use alt+tab anymore).

I still hate the whole Command+Arrow to do "Home" and "End" though.

Bah, why not have both? I demand a better taskbar/dock!

Sort of - I have two high res LCDs on my powermac g5, so I virtually never have any need to maximize windows. That being said, having a non-standard behavior for the button is poor design choice - check out what itunes or finder does when you want to maximize it.

I would very much disagree - first of all not all windows show up in taskbar (non-blocking dialog boxes etc. ) and even two rows high task bar on my vista laptop gets super messy when i have a bunch of windows open. Expose is by far the best solution for that stuff (much better than alt/comand tab)

No, the only reason to maximize a window is because you are only currently doing one thing.

Are you using a two row taskbar? I can't live with a single row taskbar.

Kubuntu has an array similar to OSX's. You just hover your mouse in the top left corner. It's convenient.

Using a single row. Anything more always seemed too big. Though I think it could be best. If I'm doing work, I'm going to be needing more than one row.

people still arguing over which is better? i'm using my windows xp desktop and my mbp concurrently. they both work fine and for the most part do exactly what i want them to do. i prefer os x tho tbo

one task bar over four 17" at work 😛

I rarely maximise stuff on my MacBook so I don't miss it.
