Now to get proxies for dnet and seti up. Unfortunately my win2k server HD failed and it died the horriable BSOD after a month of uptime! :|

Anyways.

certainly trust linux, to bad I am rusty. Oh well it is running, ok what isa good proxy server and firewall for linux? I just got this guy installed and I want soemthing that allows port fowarding. I got 2 comps to serve to.

I was going to say Linux Router Project and give you a link, but due to that freaking virus, LRP site is down (at least I can't get to it). :|

slahr, it is just you. Loads fine for me. ]

Mmmm bootable router, cool I could setup a p200 for that. 😛

But can i isntall this in a full isntall?

Mandrake linux 8. I only installed 360 MB

Adul-

It is designed to run without a hard drive, not unlike the Klinux distro, only this just does routing. 🙂

A P200 would be plenty of horsepower for it. 🙂

The Cisco 4000 series routers were powered by the intel 80486 chipset while lower end routers(2000 series) were powered by the same processor that was used in the Apple IIc. :Q

Besides, it is much less expensive than actually buying a "real" router. 🙂

Thanks for the link Poof.

I've set my little brother's cable modem up with a Freesco router running off an old <gasp> Cyrix PR166+.
As far as I know, he's still using it for his home network.

I got the firewall up last night. I do remember having to install ipsomething, I don't remember has it was late and I just wanted to get it going. I was going to use the built internet sharing, but it can't read a file for some reason. I just manage to get a pproxy going last night, but I do not know if I am allowing it to pass through the firewall. Oh well I try to come home early and tinker with it. Thanks for the info guys.

Adul - if you want to use the default 2064 for the pproxy, then you need to make sure that the firewall will pass (forward) packets for that port. Same goes for port 80 or 23. 🙂

i got to find out where I can change that. Damn, no text editor installed. I guess I was trying to be too len. 😛

thank for the help shux. 😉

Now get one aim so I can bug you.

OK how the hell do I edit this firelwall? Where is it installeD?

ok i was just using what came with mandrake( iknow I know)

I think it is called tiny firewall.

Adul - alot of the newer distros install a proggy called "Midnight Commander". It's a Norton Commander clone for linux. I can't live without it. I even have it on my NetBSD.

Try going to a terminal and typing "mc". If something comes up, then you can use that to do all sorts of stuff like find files, move files, change ownership/permission on files, FTP to other places to transfer files, and even edit your firewall config stuff... 😛
