Posting from my first Ubuntu build!

Awesome, that was easy. The hardest part was getting the tower rebuilt.

A few things I'm noticing... my user experience is lacking due to hardware constraints. This is my first test box - not the main box. Its only a 3.06Ghz Celeron D, with 512mb of DDR400 memory, and an onboard video sharing 32mb of the memory. Blah.

Other than that, the worse thing so far are the default fonts. Its too small and a little bit blurry. Now I just need to get used to where all the applications are at.

I recently gave Ubuntu a try. In many ways, nicer than XP. Biggest obvious difference to me is less driver development and lack of games.

System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects->None might speed things up. If Gnome is the problem, Xubuntu would probably offer a better experience (but it's likely too late to offer that advice)

Not at all, XFCE and KDE are both packaged for Ubuntu. Just pick them in the package manager and they should appear as an option on GDM at your next login.

Also,in the Appearance Box, go to Fonts and play around with them to get it the way you want. And you can download from System---Administration---Synaptic the package "msttcorefonts" and that will give you the Microsoft fonts.
