A few days ago I decided to send a pound of starbucks coffee from work to a friend of mine in Australia. To my dismay when I went to UPS, the shipping cost was 58 dollars!!! What the hell is that all about?! Its a pound of bloody coffee, not gold boullion! I finally just sent it through the USPS for 20 bucks, it was still a rip off though. Why is it so expensive?

It all depends on who you use. With gas prices high, you'll pay higher now than you did a year ago for some things. But it has to deal with the frequency of trips the carrier has over there. Plus there may be some customs fees. You sure that coffee's gonna make that trip? Temps vary greatly on the planes. Coudl be really hot, could be really cold. And then, the might think it's not coffee..... don't want to make you paranoid or nuthin but I would be curious as to if it made it there in one piece.

Nay, my friend sends me things in the post from AU, but for a cd he sent me, it cost him : 4.50. AIR MAIL. So, why is this so much more?

Uh, a pound of coffee weighs about 50x more than a CD.

Australia sends a lot more things to the US than the US sends to Australia.

This can't be true...they don't have anything we want. Do they? Everyone likes American goods...
