I'm running OSX and installed windows 7 RC in parallels

My system:

Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz
4 GB RAM
7900GS
WD Raptor 74 GB system drive

Parallels has only taken part of my resources. There's only 1 core running in parallels, and only 1 GB of RAM available. Also, the graphics all have to go through parallels to OSX so there's no hardware acceleration.

My system as tested through Parallels:

Processor: Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz - 1 core - 4.8
RAM: 1 GB - 4.5
Graphics: 7900GS that shows up as "Parallels Video Adapter" - 1.9
Gaming Graphics: Same - 1.0
Primary Hard Disk: 74 GB Raptor - 6.5

A. its only 1.6GHz

these performance results aren't really incredibly scientific, they're often based more on specs than actual performance. Double the clock rate to 3.2GHz and it would probably score ~5. Add double up the core(s) and it would shoot up another point. Double up again (quadcore) and you'd get into the 7s.

I have not done the performance test on my main test rig (e6550, 2gb, etc...) but I did just install this on my very old rig just to see if it would actually work and be functional. The first time the test crashed with some video playback error, the second time it came out with this:

AthlonXP 1800+ 2.4
768MB DDR266 2.4
Aero SiS Mirage Onboard GPU 1.9
Gaming 1.0
WD1200BB 4.9

Even with the score I'm very impressed it even works on such an old hunk of junk. MS really surprised me with this OS, it seems they have a winner.

Yeah a 4850 gets 7.9 on build 7000 lol, they really increased high point criteria there.

reading thru this thread it dawned on me that this small utility to report and rate your rig was genius. for the marketing dept. they now have a built-in way to make people compete, upgrade and keep repeating. smart stuff there.

It is actually meant to be a guide to buying software for your PC. Some games and other software use the rating system to help consumers know if they have capable hardware or not. The Witcher requires a PC to have a base index of at least a 5.0 to match it's requirements for example. The Experience Index was never intended to be used as a bench marking utility.

The Witcher requires 5.0? Lol, that game runs too smoothly to require that...But I guess everything does now that I have a modern GPU....going from X1900XTX > X700PRO > GTX 260 216 is like....man going to moon?

What do you think is wrong? The 4890 is roughly equiv to a GTX 275 and both are about 5-10% better than the 260, so a 6.5 for it doesn't seem wrong.

Your overclocked 4830 gets a higher score than my overclocked 9800GTX+

I find this odd. On Page 1 of this thread, a Radeon 3650 gets a graphics score of 5.2/4.5 while the significantly weaker Intel IGP 4500 gets 4.1/4.9. That Radeon 3650 is going to beat the IGP at every benchmark, test, and experience with the possible exception of power use.
