Last year, 0, I paid 5% to Utah state, and got back 3k more than I put in for federal.

Our tax system sucks

17.50% including federal, SS, Medicare, state and the two local income taxes. Does not include sales, property and other misc. taxes.

19.59% including property taxes on the house and cars. No sales or other misc. taxes.

6.42% effective federal rate (not including SS or Medicare).

Dual earner family with two kids. Standard deduction on federal and itemized on state.

Numbers calculated from total income / total taxes actually paid (not withheld). Income included all wages and investment incomes (Everything).

18.8% Fed

0% State

Did not include sales tax (8.25%), Property Tax Rate (2.55%) or FICA tax (7.65%)

I'm in the lowest bracket and I pay 30% in income taxes (post deductions), of the remaining I pay 30% in sales tax (including taxes on alcohol, cars, added sugar and fat) and roughly 300% in energy taxes.

All in all I'm probably not far from the 48%, as the total of GPD funneled trough the public in Denmark, but unlike the US I get free healthcare and education/tuition

Turbotax tells me my effective Federal Tax Rate for 2011 was 4.61%. However, we are getting a fat $2,500 AOA credit while my wife goes to school.

Property tax, tax on gasoline, taxes added to cell phone bills, sales tax (8.5%), income tax, tax on vehicles (even if it's not called tax - but then, why is the cost to register a trailer so much cheaper than a car?), state income tax, etc.

I wouldn't even want to attemp to figure it out. And then, I spent a few thousand last year on purchases that were farm expenses, thus tax exempt, my accountant depreciates equipment that I purchased, etc. now it's getting even more cumbersome to attempt to calculate.

But, I pay every cent that I'm legally obligated to pay... No tax free online purchase, etc.

Around 23% Fed & State

Add in Medicare, SSI, CA SDI, and other BS ................

And then Sales TAX

Gotta be close to 30% all in.

23%
I get almost no deductions because I'm so white and manly

I live in Canada though. Taxes are higher up here. They're much much much higher in Europe.

Total Provincial and Federal Income Tax is just under 37%. That does not include the HST or tax in liquour, gasoline, hookers or blow.

Based upon the poll it appears we have a number of very well paid wage earners here. I make what I consider a very good salary but only pay an EFFECTIVE tax rate of about 10%. The overall effective local/state tax rate in my state is in the bottom 20% of the country.

For anyone chiming in from Europe ... you can keep your 30% income tax, your VAT and your tax on air ... it is still MUCH cheaper to live in the US even with free medical/education.

You say that now but you'll say different when you get cancer. Everyone eventually gets cancer.
