Question Post your SSD remaining life, total days used so far and projected remaining life

SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB
Days used: 855
(Reads 22900 GB, Writes (19000 GB)
(Durability is listed at 1200TB written, so I guess percent remaining would be 1200-19=1181, 1181/1200= 98.4%)
EOL with above data: 146 years

Let me know if the math does not check out

You must have a lot of free space remaining. I have hardly 26GB free on my SSD. Do you have plans to start being a bit more reckless with your SSD writes, given that you have plenty of write-erase cycles to spare?
 
I have about 30% free space, keeping track never to go below 20% for performance reasons. But I'm not sure how much more writing I could do, its not like I'm holding back, all my games are on the SSD.

Oh. That use case really doesn't involve tons of writing. Guess this is gonna be a lifetime investment for you 🙂

It claims a 200TB write endurance, so I'm about halfway there.


Seagate 600 480GB SATA
Power on hours: 66286 (~2762 days or 7.5 years)
Power on count: 529
Read: 40TB
Write: 55TB

This drive only claims 74TB endurance, and it's reporting read errors in the SMART information, so just today I replaced it with a brand new 870 Evo 1TB.

EDIT: Used Dashboard which tells me life remaining is at 98%

Simplest way is to use the manufacturer's SSD dashboard application. In your case, we can estimate that your SSD will last more than 200 years if your NAND writing patterns remain the same as they have during the past 5 years. Your SSD's remaining life may degrade faster if you have less than 10% free space.

Also, some more interesting math we can do (and I hope I'm doing this right):

2 percent life used equals 90560 GB NAND writes
100 percent life used equals (90560/2)*100=4528000 GB=~4.5 Petabytes total NAND writes
Single Flash Cell Endurance=4528000 GB / 960 GB= ~4717 write-erase cycles

So your drive is based on very good quality MLC flash. TLC flash that is predominantly used these days has somewhere around 1000-1500 write-erase cycle endurance. QLC manages just 500-700 write-erase cycles.

In case a dashboard application is not provided by manufacturer, you may have to use a S.M.A.R.T. utility to find the total host writes attribute value. Subtract that value (usually in GB) from the estimated total flash writes left based on the flash type and you get remaining life. I mostly avoid lesser known SSD brands and all the major ones provide their own dashboard application.
