2010 iPhone 4
2011 iPhone 4s
2012 iPhone 5
2014 iPhone 6 +
2015 iPhone 6s +
2016 iPhone 7 +
2017 IPhone X
2018 iPhone Xs max
2020 iPhone 12 max?

So basically i just buy the new Apple flagship every year. The former one I sell or give to my wife.
Except I did not buy iPhone 5s, kept iPhone 5 for 2 years, and also i did not buy iP 11 Pro max and kept my Xs max for 2 years
Of course I want 5G so I will upgrade to iP 12 max end of 2020 and sell my Xs max in order to help finance my purchase.
I always buy the larger screen variant since i use my phone for video and gaming a lot.

Had so many I could not even tell you.
It started with Palm which I didnt really love. Then a G1 at Tmobile which was interesting but also did not love.
Later the Droid at Verizon which I did like, and from then on a steady stream of Android devices up to my current Nokia 7.2.
For fun I picked up the Palm Pre and a few Windows phones but they were never my main device.

Oh, and any time Android was making me angry I would try something like an E72 or something else outside the norm. They were fun for a short while but I always ended up back on Android eventually.

Oh i forgot about that. I also started with a Palm V then a SonyEricsson smartphone with keyboard, had the 3G where my iPhone did not.

Nexus 4
Samsung S5
Samsung S6 edge
Samsung S7
LG G5
Samsung S8

G5 was a temporary device as my S7 was refurbished and got the pink line. Not that the LG was bad device but the Samsung S8 was a great phone and still it is. The new Samsung phones aren't so special and it is not worth changing them for my use pattern.
I prefer smaller phones to the + and max versions.
Still I plan to buy new phone in this autumn around the release of iPhone 12.
As the S20's in Europe are with Exynos and they look terrible compared to SD865, I think I will be trying iPhone this time or my favorite from the Android team - OnePlus 7t(8, 8t?). Pixel 5 and Huawei P40 might be good also.

Previously worked in wireless, I have had 50+ devices easily, maybe more.
Now that I’m out of wireless, I have close to zero interest in new devices. I try to keep changes as infrequent as possible excluding my windows phone run. Buy $60 device use it until I drop it or break something then buy another $40 device.

Started with a Droid X .
Galaxy S3
Galaxy Notes: 2, 3, 4, 7...
Galaxy S7e after the Note 7 debacle, then...
Galaxy Notes: 8 and 9.

Nothing much has interested me since. We'll see where the Note 20 takes things I guess.

I went from an iPhone 3G, to a Motorola Droid X, to a Samsung Galaxy S3, to an iPhone 6, and then finally to an iPhone XR.

I basically got rid of each one of those phones for the same reason... the software updates eventually made the phone too slow or unreliable to use. No broken screens or hardware failures on any of them!

The iPhone 6 was impressive. I got 3 years of (mostly) trouble-free service out of that one.

My wife has always had cooler phones than me. She went from a Motorola Droid (the OG model), to an HTC Thunderbolt, to a Google Nexus, to an LG G5, to an iPhone 6S, and finally to an iPhone 11.

She had a few touch screen failures and shattered screens along the way, though.

Bought used:
Droid 1
Kyocera Hydro

Bought new:
LG Tribute 2: $20
Moto E (2015 version) with case: $10
2018: Moto E4: $60
2019: Lg Phoenix something or another: $30 (now paper weight since I switched from Sprint back to ATT/Tmobile)

My Moto E (2015) is my backup phone for AT&T/Tmobile service.
now looking for a cheap replacement for it because lots of apps no longer accept Android 5.1. :(

any suggestions? :)

It took me a long time to make the jump from "basic" cheapo phones to "smartphones."
2013 Galaxy S3,
2015 S5
2016 S7,
2018 S9+
Past ready to upgrade...but haven't decided whether to go with the S21+ or make the switch to Apple. We'll see what the iPhone 13 series brings.

I don't remember the years, but basically:

Blackberry Pearl (did that even count as a smartphone? lol)
Nexus 4
DTEK50

I am due for an upgrade but debating on what direction I want to go. I hate how smartphones are basically trojans that spy on you 24/7 and sell your info to 3rd parties but at same time I like the convenience of texting on a smart phone (vs trying to use a crappy flip phone keyboard) and having a good camera. I may start looking into which phones support a custom android spin, some of those rebuilds have managed to strip out all the Google stuff.

2021 iPhone 13 Pro Max - On the way

If the triple play of iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods didn't work so well together I would switch. I just haven't owned three pieces of mobile tech that worked so well together. Plus it helps that my family and wife's are all on iPhone and iPad now. I got everyone switched off Android and they've been so much happier all around.

When I am at the coffee shops I turn on my phone's hotspot titled "Apple used Child Labor Google it"

BTW there is a reason that the scandalous former CEO of Theranos copied Job's look...

I don't know years but anyway...

As noted many were pre-ordered/purchased at launch

Palm Tree 650 (does that count?)
Palm Pre (launch)
Galaxy S
Galaxy S3 (launch)
Note4 (launch)
Pretty sure there wasn't anything here but can't remember!
Galaxy S8 (launch)
Galaxy S10 (launch)
Galaxy Z Flip
Pixel 3

Not sure what is next but probably not new. In my mind we've reached a critical point where buying the newest isn't a good return on investment feature/performance wise. If the Flip was more durable I'd get another one though. I really like the form factor.

we've reached the critical point years ago when phones started costing more than laptops.
wtf $1000 phones?!

my current phone = Motorola, android 10, 4gigs ram, 128gigs internal storage ($80 black fri 2020)

my next phone will probably be one of those with a fold out screen to double the screen size.
probably be a few years till it reaches my $75 price point.

Shouldn't the question be why is a $1000 laptop less capable than a equivalent smartphone? 2k-4k touchscreen screen, 4-5 cameras, faster/efficient SoC, NVMe equivalent storage, cell modem built in and so on.
