Yea, it's doing me no good under full load conditions because I can't get it tight enough down on CPU,yet. It jumps around a tad.And yep, have taken condensation prevention methods.I have been using them for about 2 years on Pentiums.I am not using the pelt full time, especially since I am stable at 1830 w/out it.No benefits yet.

Yea that condesation can be a kiler. The first time I used a Peltier on a socket I didn't think about the spot between the CPU and the motherboard and well you know the rest. ;) I did catch it before any damage was done but whp know it I hadn't checked it.

GJTM8: So the supercool temps aren't giving you anything extra, huh? I guess that's good news for me as it doesn't entice me into getting a peltier. :)

NOS440: Those are cool temps for your machine too. Mine are above 34 degrees nearly instantly after turning them on and will drift up several degrees more while just idling. And that's with an open case in a cold room (60 degrees Fahrenheit.)

Maybe my other problems are messing up the works though.

Yea my CPU seems to run cool. I also run the cooling utility that is built into Asus probe so that is what lowers mine while surfing and such.

I think it would if I could get it right Mr.Diggler.Have seen things that were not possible without it.I'm glad you caught that before any damage was done NOS440.

hey guys, i'm interested in building a P4 system. (with the intent of O/Cing the hell out of it of course).

questions:

1) If you don't have a 2.03 case, what difference does it make? do you need a P4-approved power supply? Don't P4's need that 12V power connecter? or do most people just use adapters or something?

2) Cooling: what kind of CPU HSFs do you guys use? stock? I haven't seen any P4 alpha's or P4 globalwin's or anything... Can a FOP38 or something like that be modified to be used on a P4?

First off if your going to OC it then get a Asus P4T it comes with a Backing plate that allows it to be used with any ATX case. As far as Power Supply you really don't need anything special I'm using a Enermax 430 watt that has all the Plugs for a P4 But when I built my system I was using a Antec pp303x and it worked and overclocked the same. I really think the extra plugs are for future much higher clocked P4s. I'm using a $9 cool master cooler right now and can get 310 mhz overclock without a problem. Global Win makes a P4 cooler and there is a Thermaltake Golden Orb that is available. They really don't need any big cooling in my opinion. Hope this helps ya out.

P4 1.5 at 1.8 gig at 1.8 volts (Prime 95 49 degrees for 24 hours)
2 128mb 800 Samsung RDRAM sticks
can get a tid higher but not completly stable

Enlight 7237( 2nd revision for the P4)
SBL Platium
3D Prohpet II 64mb
Plextor 16x10x40 cdrw
Aopen 10x DVD

Yea I just won a Flea bay bid on a retail with ram and heatsink the other day for 250 for 1.5 waiting for it now. Should be able to sell my 1.4 alone for that.

the answer: Does that dealer owe you any more favors? :) I wish I could get a 1.5 chip for near that price, heh. Nice setup, any 300MHz overclock is sweet, let me know when you want to sell that chip...haha.

richiew: I second what NOS440 said. I am using a 2.01 ATX 300W power supply with a 12V adapter, but I really don't think the adapter is doing anything. The P4T is the board of choice right now...and probably will remain that way...very easy to setup and use. (If using win98, don't forget to install the i850 drivers like I did though.)
I just used the Thermaltake P4 Golden Orb for $14 plus shipping, don't try to mod your own unless you know what you're doing, like GJTM8.

so if i've understood you guys correctly, you don't even need a 12V adapter to use a P4T?
Any regular old ATX power supply will work on P4T?

Also, I can't find the globalwin fan on the globalwin.com.tw page.

So a P4-1.4ghz should be able to get close to 1.7Ghz with some good PC800 ram, right? This would make it extremely competitive with the athlons, since they can barely get to 1350 without a peltier.

thanks guys, all this P4-envy is making me save my nickels and dimes.

Well I wouldn't say any old ATX Power Supply it needs to be of good quality. Like a Antec or sparkle 300 watt.
Theres a few cooling sights that sell the GlobalWin like 2cooltek.com, 3dfxcool.com , coolerguys.com , to name a few. To tell ya the truth I run a $9 Cool Master I bought from Micropro.com and it works fine 33c surfing and 42c under load. I just put a better fan on it than it comes with and it works like a charm. It actually worked fine with the stock fan. But I wanted it to run cooler so I changed it.

Why are you guys posting overclocks without any numbers to back you up?

Come on,
I want to see Q3, Seti, RC5, Sandra scores.
Or have you guys disabled instruction execution so you can
post at 1.8Ghz?

I said post "Your" scores, not someone else.

I sound like an AMD Zealot?
Mind you I helped design the P4 you are trying to overclock.
And I don't consider myself an "AMD Zealot" by any stretch of my imagination. :)

GJTM8, sounds like your peltier isn't powerful enough. What kind of cold plate are you using? Because only like 1/9th of the peltier sits over the CPU, so you only got like 1/9th the cooling unless you have a good cold plate.

Please dont laugh at me ok. :)

I have a gateway P4 1400 MHZ with 512mb pc800 samsung non ecc rdram, geforce2 gts64mb hercules, 16x pioneer slot load, 12x plextor cdrw drive, and sblive xgamer, and 22" mits diamondtron monitor, I wanna overclock this wannabe badboy. ( btw most was free and im not laughing)benefit of pushing gateways lol

I need an asus p4t mobo because the gateway mobo obviously has most of the bios options disabled, anyways being an intel mobo it wouldnt allow you to do much anyways i dont think.

so besides the asus p4t what else do i need? read most of the thread. want some suggestions please. ccheapest price i have been able to find was about 189 on this mobo.

thanks
