I had my brothers camera for a few weeks and finally got some updated pictures of my home and work network!

Work : I think it's pretty good considering I did all the wiring myself. Probably should have had it done professionaly though.

First off, here's my office
Main network rack
Servers (muc-central.com is the one with the blue and white front)
More servers!
Main patch panel
Closeup of the switches
The ugle rear

Home : My boss gave me a rack :)

My network diagram
My home servers
Top of the rack
Server behind dresser and the Shuttle box on my book shelf
My control area :)
Living room PC

Enjoy!

Hehe, my Mom has that exact same desk! What's the box in the bottom left in your rack?

I don't really have anything setup right now as half of my computer stuff is here at school with me. Pretty soon it will all be at home. I do have a rack but I don't have room for it so a friend is borrowing it right now. there's a pic of it Someday I'll have that setup with some servers on it. Best part of the rack, cost me $10. They were scrapping it at work and they did not realize that it is actually a server rack, their loss.

pc on the second shelf is an AMD 2500@3200
starting from left to right on the bottom shelf:
1. compaq proliant 2500 - 200mhz Ppro - running debian and netfilter, dedicated firewall with 3 nics (WAN, DMZ and LAN)

2. MSI motherboard with cellery 400 - running debian with postfix, pop, imap, and spamassassin, mail server

3. dell pc P3-600 - running redhat 7.3 (haven't converted it to debian yet), apache, php, sql, proftpd, web server + ftp server

4. dell pc p-133 - running debian, rsync, local file server. used to rsync all machines on the network everynight using this script: http://www.cyberfrogs.net/files/scripts/rsync-inc.sh

the box on the far right is a compaq 2500kVA UPS that keeps all the machines and network up and running in case of a power outage or brownout.

My home rack was given to me by my boss. It was a spare from the work network room that was taller than the others. The ones in the network room were already installed when we moved to this office. Sorry I can't help you there!

mucman -

Isn't that a 7200VXR with an OC3 coming in? I see 2 FastE, and it looks like an OC3 card... If so, do you work for some sort of hosting company or something?

No pictures. My home network is currently in flux, and they would *not* be happy if I brought a camera into work. :p

Mucman: How's that PXEboot stuff working out for you? I was thinking of playing with it, but don't have the parts just yet.

Believe it or not, but I got a X along with xfce4 running on a diskless machine. The box has tons of RAM so it's quite
fast too. Enabling PXEBOOT in the bios was a nightmare because it's impossible to find the program that enables it. I
ended up finding it through a google translated page from germany I believe. I setup the OS by running sysinstall and
installed it to a directory that was exported via NFS (ie /nfs/netos)

I should have documented my procedure like you did in the OS forum, but I can be quite lazy sometimes ;)

It's a shame that the Air Force recycles some perfectly good 19" racks. Wish i could show you a picture of my network, but I'd get thrown in jail, or at the very least loose my position and be relegated to wiping down gym equipment!

I used one of those to double use my laundry room as a wiring closet. (Its got a dehumidifier hooked to a drain system) Looks awsome and I get to list it as a selling feature for the house. "Hard wired for Gig-E"

here are a few pix of some 19" racks that we recently built for the NAVY, loaded with plenty of com equipment (switches, routers, etc), getting ready for some shock testing. Tests are conducted using 60lbs. of HBX explosive at 20ft of starboard and at 20ft depth. You can see that the 3 of the socks failed, but all the equipment survived and was 100% operational. The deck was tuned to 14hz and the equipment saw a max accel of around 22G's.

Here are a few vids of the blasts:

enjoy....

I think creating documentation is the most under appreciated thing someone can do. And creating good documentation is sometimes even less appreciated. :p

Thanks n0c... I love travelling, I just wish I wasn't going on another guilt trip!

I'm trying to make a point of journaling more of my computer projects. I'm even thinking of installing some blog software as a way of doing the documentation! I've realized that I've setup some fancy things in my day, and I think many people would appreciate a helping hand. Heck, my FreeBSD jukebox article has had many views (including the programmer of musicpd).
