One of them told me years ago that if they are only going to pay him $X, he's only going to work $X worth. He couldn't understand that in order to move up you have to show that you can do the job. As far as the managers feel, he's only worth $X because that's all he's ever shown he can do.

I know that happens, but in my personal experience the people who felt that way were mis-applying their efforts. I once had a boss that told me that the way to succeed was as simple as: (1) Find out what your boss wants; (2) Do it. Some people work very hard on the things they like working on, but those aren't always the things that should be worked on.Originally posted by: Descartes

On the flipside of that you have those who go way beyond what's expected and see absolutely no return.

Of course that includes tips! The job is all about tips and tips alone. If he worked 80 hours per week, he'd be pulling at least $1,000 per week. But most drivers would get burned out quickly working that many hours. I'm guessing he works 3-4 days/nights per week. I also deliver pizzas. I worked about 31 hours last week. With my wage ($5.15/h + $.25/h bonus for having a cell phone), tips, and delivery commission (a small fixed amount paid by the store to the driver for each delivery), I made right around $580 before taxes and expenses. It varies from week to week, but thats pretty typical for the place I work now. I could pull in $50,000 per year doing 50-55 hours per week, but I'm going to school, so those kind of work hours wouldn't work out. (I plan to do better for myself.) Subtract the car expenses, and it's not that impressive. Remember that the 100% residential type of driving we do is extra rough on cars. Even the best economy cars (like the Civic I used to have) don't break 26 MPG. My current car, a Mazda Protege, gets about 21 MPG. My old Saturn got about 19 MPG. Given an 8-10 hour driving shift, figure your first 30-60 minutes of work only fills the gas tank for the night. Then figure your next hour's work pays for car insurance (full coverage is a good idea). Then figure another hour's work for brake pads, tires, oil changes, and other car M&R (maintenance and repair). Don't forget the purchase price of the car itself!Originally posted by: jntdesignthats good money for delivering pizzas do you work 80hrs/week? that include tips?Originally posted by: rbloedow Papa John's Pizza delivery driver / about $450 a week / I've had the same job for a little over 2 years, it was my first job in high school and still is.

At my store, they just deduct the delivery commission from what I owe the store, so I get to take that money home each night. I wish that I could make a little more money in tips (well, at least how much you make) - but our store has a HUGE delivery area, so that really cuts down on how many deliveries I can take in a night. But, I am up for a $.25 raise next month, so I'll be making 6 bucks a hour......
Or none of your god damn business.Originally posted by: Regs
