So far the only issue I've had with the P4PE/L is populating DIMM 1&2 together, the system continuosly reboots evey few seconds. However populating any other combo of slots works perfect. Anyone else had this or other issues with this series?

No, mine runs great and I have DIMM 1&2 populated.
So far this thing OC's like a mofo, with a voltage adjustment
here and there of course. Good luck!

My only complaint is mine is running far too stable. If this continues, the wife will never let me buy a new machine.

IIRC, Evan was able to populate all banks and get 2-2-2-5 memory settings.

<== extremely happy with P4PE, P4-2.53GHz and 1GB of RAM (512 + 512 in DIMM 1 & 2).

Great to hear all of you are completely stoked with this boad :) I was able to replicate the issue on a SiS 645 based board so it's obviously a flaw with the ram despite the fact that it runs error free through memtest and prime95 torture test even@DDR400 speeds

Everytime I install Win2k, it always hangs in the middle of the process. Could my P4PE be a lemon?

Make sure you have Boot Virus Detection disabled in BIOS, otherwise you won't be able to write to MBR (Master Boot Record) on your hard drive during Windows 2000 installation.

That sounds like a RAM issue, what brand and speed are you using? It would be a good ide to run memtest86 on it and see if there are errors. Also if you have more than 1 stick try them seperately and in different slots if needed. Good luck and post back with update. EDIT andrey may have nailed it as I noticed the boot virus detection is enabled by default on mine.

DAPUNISHER, that's kind of odd, you shouldn't have any trouble running DIMM 1 & 2 together, so it's probably your memory. :)

Thanx for the confirmation Evan, After getting the same results with a P4S333 I knew it had to be the ram but it puzzles me that it functions perfectly in other configurations on both boards, it's the strangest ram issue I've come across and I'm at a loss as to the explaination for it.

This board rocks for me. OCs really well. I'll try a new C1 stepping CPU sometime in the near future now I know it'll run memory really high. Maybe get some PC3500, as well. Asus Probe reads the core voltage as 1.56 and I have it set at 1.55 in the BIOS. BTW, I have 2 sticks of 256 Samsung PC3200 running at 427. I'll try for faster settings on the RAM and see what happens. Prime95 ran for hours without a problem. Never went above 45C.

This is my first post here so hello everyone!
I?ve decided to get one to upgrade my old Pentium 3
pc and I?ve got a P4 2,4 Ghz, 512 mb ddr 333 mhz and the
ASUS P4PE mainboard. On my old pc I had a RAID array with two
hd?s configured in mirror mode.
To my big surprise once i installed the hd?s in this
new mainboard only one if was recognized. I thought
it was a problem of configuration but then i read on
the manual and it seems as though you can put
just one parallel ata hd in the RAID array together
with a Serial ATA hd but not two parallel ATA hd?s!!!
I really don?t understand and I can?t find any support
on this matter on the Asus website!
Have I misunderstood what they wrote on the manual?
Is there a way to create a RAID array (mirroring) with two
normal hd's?
Please help me I'm getting desperate!

Also, another thing I don't understand!
How come it's not possible to adjust the bass and trebles
tone? Is it me once again not understanding how to set
the audio?

Thanks for any who would help me in this matter!

Other than these issues, it's a great card!

My one single measely complaint:

The stupid screw holes for the motherboard mounting are terribly off. I have two chieftec cases, which have had numerous motherboards from different companies in them and they all lined up within reason. Both my P4PE and P4B533 dont line up worth a crap. Other than that, Im a happy customer.

Welcome to the forums Fingolfin :) The way I understand it you will have to set up your RAID as master/slave on the same controller which means lower performance of course but I haven't read any other way of doing it with 2 IDE HDDs on that board. As to the bass and treble adjustments I think it'll require a driver update to support them.
Ctkelly When I installed the P4PE/L in my Maxtop cool case it lined right up with the standard ATX mounts I was already using for my P4S333 so your problem seems odd to me, can you move the mounts to other holes that line up or is it just a SNAFU?

DaPunisher: Thanks a lot for your welcome and your reply to my post!
I've tried to set the secondary HD as slave but still it won't be recognized by the RAID controller.
May it be that it's because I already had a RAID array on the old motherboard so now there are
still some "traces" of it? I've formatted the second hard disk though so I thought it would be ok
and that I didn't necessarily have to start from scratch with the two blank hd's to set up a new
array. So my problem is still not solved :(

Thanks again for your attention!

Just got the mobo to oc my P4 1.6A to the max
But what a bummer !!!!!
The audiochip stops at 150 Mhz ... any higher and no chip detected ...

cpu can get much higher but than my raid goes off well

DOH !

I bought this specially to be able to oc my cpu even more but now I can no longer get past 150Mhz.

Thinking about returning it and taking back a P4S533

Are you locking the AGP/PCI in spec? or leaving it on auto? I've had no issues up to 160fsb which is as hard as I've pushed my 2.4B due to having the stock cooler and pad still, but I'll correct that soon :D

Since you already have experience with raid and understand what your doing I suggest you try e-mailing Asus's tech support and see if they have a solution for you.

To you Aristo

Try this worked to me:

I had also had lot of hdd problems(with newer drives 8gb, 20gb, 40gb and 80gb), but I tried very old hdd(1,7gb) and it worked. So I tried allmost everything, but nothing worked with newer drives... until I realized that the old drive doesn't use ultra dma mode, so I disabled ultra dma mode from bios AND Voila everything works fine.

I mean that I can use my bigger hdds. BUT IT'S really not so fun to use hdds without UDMA, maybe Future bios updates will correct that(but I'm still calling tomorrow to my reseller, about this situation, if I could change my mb). I hope this info will help some others, because it took WEEK me to realize this f...... thing.

Got an issue with a SCSI card- my thread is nearby!

Oh yeah- just remembered... I lost advanced properties for IDE controllers (the PIO/ UDMA when available box for DVD/CDRW) in device manager for XP with BIOS 1003.002(beta).
Everything seems OK but it bugs me that it's gone!

Re: Issue 2.. I get "advanced properties" back if I uninstall Intel application accelerator. Is this necessary (or worthwhile for performance) under WinXP?

I had a problem with system hangs after installing the Intel Application Accelerator. The proggie worked great on my P4B266C but seems to not like this board. As well temps read higher but that is minor, I usually go by the notion that if it works its good.

The rear channels on my Logitech z560 dont work and I have to enable m3d to get sound out of them but the sound quality is passable.

I get really stable overclocks with CPUs that were unstable before on my P4B266C....to have lockable PCI/AGP dividers.
