I installed my Raptor last night.. and while it was quicker formatting and loading windows, nothing else really seems to be as fast as I expected, especially since i'm upgrading from a 5400 RPM drive.. I think I might have something set wrong, but I'd like to see a comparison of my scores and everyone elses various drive scores.

If you've got some HD Tach or Sandra Harddrive benchmarks, please post them along with what drive/configuration you're using.

Thanks.

Raptor: (A7N8X Deluxe integrated Silicon Image 3114 SATA controller)
Max = 78.6
Avg. = 48.7
Min = 31.1
Random Access Time = 8.5 ms
CPU Utilization = 7.5%

WD800JB:
Max = 49.6
Avg = 40.4
Min = 22.6
Random Access Time = 13.5 ms
CPU Utilization = 11.4%

Don't have the Burst speed because the scale only goes up to 80 on my version of HDTach... and that's maxed out with both of my drives.

You can change the Burst Speed graph to show over 80 by left clicking on the end of the graph and dragging it over to the right. It's kind of tricky to grab it in the right place but it will work.

Just download 2.70 which is capable of natively reading higher busts.

Cheers!

I have never bothered to download HD Tach but now I think I will. However, I am out of a job right now---is HD Tach a free utility?

I have an NF7-S Rev 2/2500+ OC'd to 2.2Ghz. I also do a lot of video-encoding/DVD ripping (for my OWN benefit--they aren't shared of course), likewise with sound and I play some big games (like BF1942). Would you guys recommend a WD SE drive or a Maxtor 8meg one? We have the 80Gig WD drive in a PC here and it is spectacular, but will the Maxtor be faster? Also, how about SATA? Is it worthwhile to use it on the NF7-S? I am thinking no, but please let me know.

To me, it looks like the Maxtor and WD's here are very similar in speed and since the WD has a higher reliability rating than the Maxtor on Storagereview.com, perhaps I should choose that one instead.

I will post scores on this 80GB 7200.7 PATA when I get HD Tach.

I have the same drives but on a integrated PATA promise raid controller. Your numbers are slightly better than mine, what controller are you using?

Those are pretty good numbers for the single drive.. I never tested the drives seperately..

WOW very nice, poppy!
I'd like to see a Hitachi Deskstar in here!
That review of it on StorageReview has led me to choosing that as my next drive. the 80GB is only $88 on Newegg too.

I'd love to see that in here ;)
