That game was awesome. The singleplayer game was ten times what Rune was. Unfortunately, the multiplayer in the game was barely functional when I played it.

Battlefield 1942 - original, not DC

And it's not desert storm, it's Desert Combat.

DC is fun and I was playing it exclusively for a couple months. Mainly around the .38 era, before they made the best part of the game (the choppers) worthless.
Now I'm back to playing the original BF and I have to say that the balance and gameplay overall are much better than DC.
DC is great though for when you get bored with regular BF.

I must have my BF1942 like an addict has to have his crack :p I was actually hoping and thinking that I would move on to something else and grow tired of it but here it is a year later and it's still almost the only game I ever touch. Like Shanti I haven't gotten into the mods although I tried one but it wouldn't work right.

Also classics Age of Empire and Age of Kings.

Sudden Strike I & II (Does anybody ever play this? I have never seen anyone mention it in all these favorite game threads).

Same here. I'm amazed that BF has continued to hold my interest for this long.
There have been 3 or 4 times that I have stopped playing for a week or two. Each time, when I go back to it, I'm as addicted as ever and can play every day for another couple of months.

You should try DC though. It's a great mod and is a nice change from regular BF. Like I said, I played nothing but DC for several months before going back to the original.
It is a different game though. Much faster paced and more lethal weapons. Unfortunately, because of these more lethal weapons, spawn camping seems to be more of a problem. And there seem to be more cheaters in DC. Or at least the cheats have more of an impact.
The heavy machine guns have amazing power but they are normally not too overpowered because you have to go prone to get decent accuracy.
But when you add the accuracy cheat that eliminates bullet spread, all of a sudden you see guys running around and jumping up and down while hitting you from 500 yards with the heavy machine gun.

I'll probably hold off on playing DC until the 1.6 patch comes out with Punkbuster included.

I may give it a try. The only thing I don't like is how few servers there are for the expansion packs. It's hard to get any decent number of players for Road to Rome anymore :(
I know when Battlefied Vietnam comes out I will be buying on the first day as soon as I get out of work. I am sure I will switch back and forth but know BF Vietnam will be hard to break away from even though I am much more fascinated by the WWII era.
