well when its just music it doesnt matter.

Fine, don't take FULL advantage of your 4.1 or 5.1 speakers and don't get ALL the pleasure you can get out of your music.

? dual stereo with rear speakers is technically less accurate stereo imaging then just have 4 speakers on your desktop in a simple stereo setup. unless u got sacd or dvd audio of course. having multiple drivers on each side in front of you is no harm. my guess is that if you had to choose between having 2 sets or one set in front of you, two setse would be better. i have my rears mounted behind me though, cuz i game, and cuz i can. not easy setup for some places.

<Insert generic crappy computer desk, ancient power station, 2.1 speakers, 17 inch CRT, 15 inch lcd, crappy-ish chair and a mess here>

Yes, for music, having the speakers in front of you is better. Music is not surround sound and is not supposed to sound like it is coming from behind you.

Exactly. I have about 40 feet or more of space behind my desk since its a corner model. It is also a corner in our living room. So there isn't a resonable way to mount speakers in my case, as much as I want to. :frown:

I only have two fronts and a sub now, but I have been considering getting surround and placing the rears as much off to the right and left of me as I can. Do you think that it would be pointless?

bored, here's panorama with cheap ass digicam! hah😛

seems half the people here have the cheapass officemax chairs.

not entirely pointless, i guess u could aim em at the sides of your head😉 or you could somehow ceiling mount em, but i tend to find that distracting as its too obvious the sounds coming from above u. yea i had to buy more cable to route the rears, they never give u enonugh if u want to do it right and hide the wire along the walls.

i guessu could also wall mount the rears since your in a corner.
