I am gathering funny or sad dead hardware pics for a web archive. So if you've crushed a core or bend a connector or toasted a PSU post pics here. If you have a story, post that as well. If you post a pic thats not your please let me know so I can make sure its kosher. once I have enough a dedicated site will be launched.
Thanks in advance, btw if you know people feel free to tell them as well and/or post thier pics also, just let me know so I can put it under thier tag.

I told you not to try to jump start your car with it.

Check out my modem here, got zapped during a thunder storm. Luckily the lightning, which struck only 50 meters from my house, didn't break anything else in the computer - it did crash though.

Cool

Skull,

Conexant (formerly Rockwell) would probably pay to get a hold of that board with that chip fried like that. The DAA circuit should've popped before any damage to the main chip. Lucky your system didn't fry.

Oops. That is a SLOT A tbird. IT IS NOT SOCKET A. Now that that's out of the way... SlotA is very hard to kill. It requires being stupid. You have to take the heat plate off, then put it back on incorrectly. This takes a LOT of force. I think I chipped the top about a year ago but that didn't kill it. I killed it when I had the plate on at an angle, so there wasn't enough contact area. I think it cooked, then when I took it apart to check, I think I gave the bottom side its cracks. The 4 missing caps on the back were from an earlier mistake. Nothing happened with them gone - it OCed as well as before and remained completely stable until I killed it.

i'll post pics soon, but 2 years ago i had a 160watt peltier on my slot a athlon 550 that i was running at around 800. i took it to a lan party while it was still in testing, and i didnt have the insulation quite put together correctly. i fell asleep while watching akira, and the next morning i looked at my compy and the screen was black on the monitor. i touched the case and got an electrical shock. i opened it up, water was pooled allover the processor, dripped down onto my geforce, dripped off that onto my sound blaster live, dripped off that onto my network card. i lost a lot of money that morning. i was so frustrated i actually started crying. its one of those days that will remain in my mind as a very painful memory, like when i broke up with my first girlfriend, or when the cat died.

Ever see that PC magazine with 10 ways to kill a computer? They filled the whole thing full of insulation foam, or took the HD cover off while it was spinning.....funny stuff....

CTho9305: Dude, you crushed that CPU :)

4 coun't them 4 dead Athlons.
Careful with that HSF!

Before installing memory, make sure wires are not in the way.
Got it back with the black wire still stuck under the memory. I am too lazy to put a new fan on it :)

Wow, hot enough to burn the paint off.
Before overclocking, make sure your north bridge cooling can handle it.

And the best one I ever got back. Sold the board to someone here on AT. I got it back because "it did not work" The little prick had snapped off the bottom 2 slots because "it would not fit in his case"
What an idiot.

Feel free to use these pics wherever you want. I would prefer credit, but not needed. Do not link to them or I will kick your ass.
