agreed vash. nothing like being in the middle of infantry combat and having a bud fly in in an apache and bomb the woods where they are hiding.

or grabbing mines and satchel charges and laying them down before the enemy armor rolls into the town you are about to have to defend.

or taking out the AA shilka enplacements so the other half of your team can paratroop in, and when they land, you can hear an enemy chopper spool up in the distance.

nothing comes close to the atmosphere of the game. there is just so much stuff you can do, and so many different ways to play a mission.

what other game can you and your entire clan be playing against a hundred computer AI, run over to a chopper, fly it, and jump out over the mission target?

i cant wait for flashpoint 2.

I agree Hitman is the sleeper hit of the year. I can play that game over and over again. I Heard there's going to be a part 2.
Max Payne is a close 2nd.

Console: Grand Theft Auto 3- I absolutely LOVE this game. This game alone makes my PS2 purchase worthwhile.

PC: Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal- yea it was an expansion, but what a great expansion. Bigger than most full games.

Diablo 2 LOD is the game I spent the most time on, and probably enjoyed the most.

Dark Age of Camelot was also great, and the game I'm currently on.

I did play GTA3 for PS2 for about 4 hours one night at a friend's house, and I thought it was great.

I found Max Payne to be one of the most boring and uninspired games I have ever played. A "polished turd" as one commentator described it.
This year has been terrible one for games in general, however I am playing wolfenstein right now and it's great fun. I think this is the one that deserves GOTY.

I really enjoyed max payne. Wolf was okay but got boring/old near the end. GT3 got old quick. I want to check out Devil May Cry and GTA3, in addition to FFX in a couple weeks.

Actually, I'd have to say Max Payne, w/ RTCW a very close 2nd.

This game lived up to its hype. Hell, the story wasn't that good and the acting cutscenes were less than exceptional, but it was downright fun to whip out dual ingrams and lay waste to 6 bad guys as you fly out from behind a dumpster. Excellent gameplay.

GTA 3 was a riot to play also. As I don't own a PS2 (I refuse to pay $300) I only got playtime on my friends system, but it was a blast. Nothing like running cars off the road in a firetruck.

Aliens Vs. Predator 2 and RtCW get honorable mentions.

I played Max Payne for 15 minutes.. what a waste of money.. I think this year personally sucked for games..

I would give Quake3 game of the year, but it's too old for that.. Civ3 also is not a contender, I believe it's not as good as it should be.

I have no idea what I would rank best for this year!
