Aqua mark is cool, I had to DL it for the first time to run this benchmark. Should I use this now over 3DMark03, 01?
Guru3D seems to think it is definitely a step in the right direction compared top 3Dmock
Even with the little time we had with this software, I think it's safe to say that this benchmark will be used broadly by a lot of reviewers and people like yourself, as it will set a new standard in benchmarking. The benchmark looks good and produces very steady/solid numbers. Next to that, it's affordable for almost anyone.
So, it definitely sounds like despite some initial criticism about intel and nVidia having Aqua in their pockets that it is a better benchmark.

I lapped the crystal orb and re-applied it to r9700 core.
(took me forever ... the botton of mine was very concave,, and that coating is hard to remove)

Increase of 13Mhz on core to 373.5 for my efforts

Gave me about 800 more points in Aquamark
Gave me about 200 more in 3dMark01

Im thinkn about volt moding the r9700pro now

45303 (CPU: 8181, GFX: 6264)
yep, the 45.23s are whats keeping NV in my box right now ;)
...very nice driver set :D
According to THG, 45.23's also are reduced quality, cheat drivers. You need to go to 44.03 for proper rendering.
NVIDIA v44.03: Renders a correct image. Faultless anisotropic filtering;

v45.23: Deterioration of quality. Light on terrain is not displayed. Light on objects is not displayed (sometimes). Shadows are not displayed;

NVIDIA v51.75: Deterioration of quality. Light on objects is not displayed. Very low anisotropic filtering quality.

The performance numbers change dramatically. From v44.03 to v45.23, the AM3 Triscores climbs 71% and 82% to 51.75. The scores with 8x anisotropic filtering are 70% higher with v45.23 and 92% higher with 51.75 than with v44.03. The anisotropic filtering quality deteriorates very noticeably from 45.23 to 51.75.

We did not find any differences in image quality between ATI´s Catalyst drivers v3.4 and v3.7. The performance of a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB is about 1.5% faster in v3.7 and this difference can be found in all results and is in the range of natural driver improvements. We only found one case in which the ATI drivers show a lower image quality than NVIDIA´s v44.03 driver.

While will it not note my Vid card frequencies? It leaves them at 0/0.

Quite honestly, I cannot see the difference between the 44.71's and 45.23's when the bench is running. Even though they appear to be reduced quality compared to the 44.03's I'll stick with them till nVidia releases better performing drivers that can produce equal or better IQ.

I know. I cant stand THG either.

The shots do show missing effects though. You cant just ignore that. I dont know what to think. Its a shame that all of this cr@p has to be even discussed. Nvidia needs to come clean and put out a set of drivers without cheats. Let the performance fall where it will.

hmmm, very interesting article. let me see i can confirm some of his findings.

i wonder if the HIQ OMEGA drivers fix any of this?

ok, gottem.

1st of all ~ Tom's shots are incorrect. he states certain shots are takin at a certain frame ~ that is incorrect. 2 of his shots are not where they claim to be (fps wise)

besides that ~ he is 100% correct with his statements.
weather this is true will all games, or just AM3 ~ that i do not know.

det 45.23
frame 3950 = explosion lighting is not there
frame 4250 = shadow is not there
frame 4900 = ship is not entirely lit

next ill try the OMEGA HIQ 45.23 drivers

:)

hiya Challenger!

ok, i just played with the OMEGA HIQ 45.23 drivers.
they dont fix a thing in AM3. (Omega prolly doesnt know of this bug as of yet tho)

as strange as it may seem, the HIQ drivers are faster then the NV drivers. (?)

det 45.23 = 43.6fps
hiq 45.23 = 45.5fps

im at a loss to explain this, other then the fact that NV better get their heads out of their arses.

:)
