My CPU was bumped up a little, from 2.8 to 3.0. Before that bump I always hovered around 10k. After the bump it jumped 700 points. Now I just need my other HD3870... With current stock and price gouging I think January will be when I get it.

Using *24/7 clocks, Vista x64, 169.09 drivers and native 1680x1050 rez

1680x1050 = 10248
SM2=4431
SM3=4293
CPU=3055

1280x1024 = 11322
SM2=4900
SM3=4995
CPU=3061

Hey guys - anyone else having problems with the 8800gt and 3DMark 06? It hangs my computer before loading almost every time, and the most it's made it through is the first scene. Rig in sig.

For comparison purposes - I scored 6700 with an overclocked x1900xt before I switched to the 8800gt.

@termie, run ati tool artifact scanner. if it starts artifacting, try forcing the fan to 50% + in rivatuner. if that fails, you might have a card that can't handle the factory oc and need to rma it. 🙁

So for real world application, what do these scores mean in terms of gaming? You guys hitting 14k plus, what settings can you run Crysis in? I'm looking to build a new system but still debating on whether or not to go SLI.

they probably somehow managed to get their pci bus to 1x as one of our compatriots did the other day. a 3.6+ ghz c2d on an 8800gtx should be 13k+ on 3dmark 06.

Bryan and Louisssss...

Thanks for the tips. The card runs fine in all games I play (Crysis, BF2, COH). I can even overclock it to 700/1000 and it runs stable if I force 50% fan in Rivatuner. But it won't even start up the first test in 3dMark, which makes me think it's not an overclock or overheating problem. And that's both under the 169.04 drivers and 169.09 beta drivers I just installed. Bryan - I also tried the Atitool artifact scanner - no problems.

If I'm the only one having the problem, guess there's no quick fix - but alas, it's only 3dMark! At least it runs Crysis a lot better than my x1900xt...

that's still very weird that 3dmark06 won't run. I thought that my system was perfect when I got my 3870, but I couldn't get 3dmark or crysis demo to run once it arrived. I tried the psu, gpu, cpu overclock settings, reinstalled windows (twice!) before finally running memtest to find that one of my ballistix had failed. try the 3dmark06 hotfix first, if that doesn't work then uninstall your gpu drivers, run driversweeper, then reinstall the latest drivers. uninstall 3dmark06 and reinstall it. if it STILL doesn't work then run memtest. if THAT doesn't find any problems then...um...

hey, didn't you say earlier that it would load up 3dmark06 but would freeze after a few minutes? is it not loading 3dmark 06 at all now?

There is a fix for this bug you can download from the 3dmark site. The bug also affects the rest of the "Marks", causing them to freeze at load.

I get 13,769 in 06 with 3.2 Ghz Q6600, and 8800GT SC @ stock clocks of 650 core & 950/1900 DDR. With an Opteron 170 @ 2.7 Ghz, plus a 256 MB X1900XT @ it's stock clocks (can't remember what they are), I got 5,372.

Last benchmark I could do in 3DMark06: 18215

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=2476322

However, I can no longer benchmark with 3DMark06, as everytime I get to the CPU part, I get two errors:

nVidia: "To run this application, the resolution of the screen should not be less than 800*600"
3DMark06: "Direct3DDevice9 :: Present failed: Device lost (D3ERR_DEVICELOST).

Oh, and isn't the record +29k officially, and +30k unofficially ???

Forgot specs:

EVGA 680i SLI + Sunbeam Tuniq Tower 120
QX6700 @ 3500Mhz
2 * XFX 8800 Ultra XXX 685M @ stock
4 * 1024 MB G-Skill PC2 6400 CL5.5.5 T2 @ PC2 6456 CL5.5.5 T2
+ other irrelevant stuff.

e6500 @ 3.0
265 meg 8600gt
2 gigs DDR2-800

4800 🙁
I know my video card ain't the greatest but I expected better.

that seems a bit low for a crossfire configuration IMO...but maybe that's cause most of the scores I see with crossfire use quads and that really adds a lot of points.

That's because you're cheating. Anyone can up their score by using min res. Default is 1280x1024, which is all us freebies can run.
