I think 3D2003 is a good way to bench..

C'mon.. 3D2001 came out 2 years ago.. I remember I had Geforce 1 sdr and was still able to play any games at over 100 fps..

Getting 15000 pts using 2 yr old bech software doesn't explain anything..

I have geforce3 now and i get about 1000 pts.. That's what I should get..

When I bought Geforce3, ppl told me I needed Dx8 compatible video card even though there were no Dx8 games..

Now ppl say we don't need 3d2003 because we don't use Ps.1.4 or Dx9

Just try Unreal2. You will see Geforce 3 or 4 ti or R8500 isn't fast anymore.. That's why they are all under $200...

I got a LOUSY 1317 with a Geforce 4 ti4600. 1-5 FPS in pretty much everything after the first game, and it didn't run all of the audio test either, actually gave me some kind of error. Wonder if that's the program or my computer. Either way, I'm about ready to delete 3dMark2003 from my computer completely. It does nothing for me except tell me I don't have a Radeon 9700. In addition to being heavily biased toward DirectX9 cards, it's also very dependent on your driver set. My rig scored 2335 with the ATI Catalyst 2.5 installed, but 3445 with Catalyst 3.0! The problem is that it won't run the Nature test with the 2.5 drivers, thus drastically lowering your score (i.e. just like all the NVidia cards). Contrast that to the difference between 11350 and 11500 scores in 3DMark 2001 SE for those two drivers, respectively. I haven't tried it with the Catalyst 3.1 yet, since my refresh forcing tweak won't work with the latest driver set and I can't stand 60Hz (I run Windows ME, and it won't recognize my monitor properly without the tweak).

Certainly, it doesn't seem to be a very relevant benchmark for 99% of the cards out there today. But I suppose 3DMark 2001 didn't match actual game performance when it first came out either. In the long run, that benchmark became more relevant with time .... but I have my doubts about 3DMark03 given its very limited repetoire of testing.

My rig:
Asus A7V8X
AMD XP2000+ (stock)
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro (stock)
512mb PC2700 DDR RAM
WD 40GB
SB Audigy

4748.
1.5GHz oldskool 423 P4.
1Gig PC800 RDRAM.
ATI AIW (All-In-Wonder) 9700 Pro.
Catalyst 3.0.
DirectX9.
Any questions?

Seems like my system did quite well in comparison with the rest of the systems around that are newer.

1693 with a Radeon 9500 NP and an XP2400+. Is there that much difference with the pro(most I see get 3000+), or does this stink ? Any why does test 4 say not supported ? This is a DX9 card.

You need to have the 3.0 or 3.1 Catalyst drivers from ATI installed. You are presumably running the 2.5 drivers, which aren't supported by the fourth 3DMark03 test (i.e. the Nature test). Your final score will shoot up considerably if you update the drivers.

I have the Catlyst 3.1 drivers, and DX9 installed. Should I send the card back and get the pro for $40 more ? Is there that much difference ?

Edit: I only get 9350 in 3d2001se. This is with a 2400+ at stock speed in 98SE.

Hmmm, it should support the fourth test with the newest drivers .... anyone else out there have a Radeon 9500 np who can confirm?

To give you a comparison, Rage3D (www.rage3d.com) posted their 3DMark03 results for all the ATI cards in their Radeon drivers forum, and they got 3571 for the Radeon 9500 Pro and 2511 for the Radeon 9500 np (both on a P4 - 3.06 GHz system). However, it definitely seems like 3DMark03 is pretty CPU-insensitive, since I was fairly close with only an AMD 2000+ (3445 for the 9500 Pro on my system).

Is there a way to check to see what driver set you have installed? Everyone keeps talking about the nature test, and I want to see it but it does not come up for me. I am pretty sure that I have the lastest drivers, but is there a way for me to check somthing?

Look under the Advanced Display Properties, and the Option tab will tell you what version of the catalyst drivers you are running. The nature test wouldn't run on my Radeon 9500 Pro without the 3.0 or 3.1 drivers installed.
