Hey guys, i was just thinking of getting some electronic music history together and was wondering what your favorite trance songs that came out some 5 years ago, and what made them better then other songs.

Did you ever go to a Rave where a famous DJ was there, and did he play his own music, or just spun records?

Are there any DJ's that still put out music you look foward to?

Did you do any drugs, and what did you think of the drug scene?

any answers would be great!

I Liked Godspeed (breakbeat remix) by BT. Best mixed set I?ve heard was Diesel Boy, Dj Dan and Scott Henry tagteam on three tables. Drugs suck, but I had a lot of fun on them. ;)

I used to like stuff put out by Jonathan Peters, some Hex Hector, mixes by Sandra Collins, QBert, Donald Glaude, Oakie, PVD, Kosheen (Chicago), etc.

Went to raves in college, DJ's spun records and played their own music. Saw all of the above live, including Deep Dish in Philly (still love the Iiao - Rapture remix), Muck Crew DJ's in CT/MA, etc.

Did drugs once in the Sound Factory in NYC, cool experience, haven't done it since. The drug scene sucks, so many people laid out (4th floor of SF = the Drug Diner) in K-holes, G-holes, or tripping on god knows what. But hey, whatever floats your boat. I grew out of it a couple years ago.

Sad to see how misrespected drugs are. Kids popping pills for the sake of popping pills.

Ketamine is especially conducive to very controlled titration. Low dose usage is quite relaxing and hardly "fucked up". No need to lose one's mind on these things, you know - but I guess thats the point of these teenagers.

So did any individual song stand out in your minds, or did it just group all together into single songs?

Did my share of E. Never liked trance or electronic stuff. Went to raves because it was an interesting scene.

Well, I did more than my share of E and still use it occasionally (about once every 6-8 months).

i worked as a photographer in the "electronic music industry" for about 3 years... from late 99-2003... on top of going to parties since 95. in the last 9 years ive seen just about everyone w/ a few exceptions, hung out w/ too many dj's to list and gone to more then my share of off the wall afterparties.

never done drugs, ive been sXe for the last 13 years

as for hearing dj's spin their own stuff... i photographed goldie and fabio (drum and bass) about 3 weeks ago - each spun their own stuff

i also did a photoshoot w/ nigel richard's girlfriend on sunday, on the roof of nigel's house - and he obvioulsy spin's his own stuff pretty often

have a TON of great memories - im now older and things in the scene have changed a lot over the last few years... i don't regret any of it, but im also not trying to live in the past

1. Theres a lot more to the rave scene than just trance music. Most of the people who listen to trance music are candy ravers and people who can't be bothered to know the name of a DJ unless he's done an 'Essential Mix'. Ask them the name of someone who actually made a good track and they'll rattle off the name of the DJ that has it on their CD that is live from some 'AWESOME" party spot like Ibiza or Brazil.

2. Define famous DJ? I've seen lots of DJs that could be considered famous in their own little genre, but outside of that genre be relatively unknown.

3. DJ's don't put out music. Producers do. DJ's spin the music that producers make. Some DJ's are also producers but most of them aren't.

4. I used to do drugs, not so much anymore (still from time to time but very rarely). I think its disgusting to go to a party and see these 14 and 15 year old kids running around rolling face, so I don't go party much anymore.

Did a fair amount of clubs but haven't gone to one in a long time. I used to like trance and such but I only listen to it occasionally now. Good music, but I'm not as interested in it as I once was. The same goes for X, which I haven't done for quite a while. Still enjoy sparking up a little green now and then, though.

i stopped liking trance when I stopped doing drugs. it's alright, but if you really wanna dance, house music is the way to go. Donald Galude, DJ Dan, DJ Sanchez....

it used to be fun going to rave, doing some drugs,( back in the days) now all there is are a bunch of 15 year olds, floored. don't even have the courtisy to go to the wall, damn kids are sittin' right on the dance floor.

Seeing some kid get carried out at every party makes you wanna not go anymore.
