Similar, though I would want it to be on the carrier that had the best reception in the places I go but still allow the phone to be open. I'd also nix the trackball, keeping the Dpad with button similar to the LG Voyager or Env2 lines. I'd also shrink the screen to between 3.5 and 4 inches, 5 inches makes the phone too large. Also, I'd definitely nix the Apple OS as well, sticking with Android, WebOS, or Maemo.

Fantasy? Something I dreamed up a long time ago and now people are actually trying to make it happen. (Wish I could patent a dream.)

A small cube about the size of a die, with light emitters that make a virtual keyboard + controller on a flat surface in front of you, and emit the display on a wall opposite of you. Would be good for a mobile computing and communications device.

Actually, the best cellphone would be like the cyberware in Rifts and Shadowrun. A chip placed in your skull that either communicated with your vocal cords and ear drum, OR talks directly to your brain.

The little cube on your desk would be reserved for serious computing power.

Motorola Droid internals, HTC Touch Pro2 keyboard

This is what I thought too. Although I'd throw in HTCs Sense UI over the TouchFlo3D. The TF3D seems to take over in an all or nothing manner. So TP2+Droid+Eris

hardware - Touch Pro2 with a faster processor and trackball. and a bit lighter.

os - has to have all winmo's capabilities and apps. add all Apple's apps and elegance, and Android's integration of Google products. And HTC Sense contact integration and weather stuff.

+1, but make it faster, more RAM and much longer battery life. Also better software/drivers to support the hardware.

'Fantasy' smartphone, right? :)

Yeah, but this way my fantasy actually comes true! :p

I wouldn't want something that big. Even the HD2 is getting too big for my liking.

I'd like to see a phone with a better camera. The Nokia N95 was moving that direction - it was one of the first phones with a 5MP camera with a real Carl Zeiss lens on it. That idea seems to have faded, though.

HTC HD2 sized down to maybe 3.8" or so. The Omnia II is a good size but lacks the hardware. HTC HD2 with D1 recording or even 720p would be sweet.

Aww hell just gimme an HD2 with US and worldwide 3G bands. 850/1900/2100 would be nice.

iphone, iphone os, same form factor
64/128/256GB flash memory
3.5" OLED screen, high resolution (800x480, etc)
5mp camera, auto focus, led flash, depth of field, tap to focus, video, etc
1GB of ram, 1Ghz+ cpu
cdma/gsm/LTE with all possible bands, so i can use any network, current and future
removable battery, but it doesnt bother me
microSDHC slot, but the capacity is so huge, i dont see a need for it

as a personal nerd thing, i would love to see the apple logo on the back lit up when the screen is turned on...:) my macbook pro has spoiled me! lol...

Free with free service plan
Real number buttons, no touch screen
Slide out keyboard
Voice recorder
Indestructible, like a hockey puck
Signal everywhere, like in StarTrek, I could be half a mile underground and I could still call out
It would never ring, ever

A version of the HTC Rhodium (aka, Touch Pro2) with a dramatically faster CPU and a lot more RAM would basically be my ideal phone. Maybe have it run Android and have a better camera (with flash?), too.
