Repaired a broken plastic "tricycle" Christmas decoration by making a small threaded shaft, boring and tapping a hole in one part, and assembling with nuts in a tight space. Replaced plug on the end of cord for automobile block heater. Re-soldered two broken costume jewelry rings. Strengthened a weakened jewelry display stand for our retail store. Replaced rear brake drums on my wife's car. Edited / printed Christmas snapshots. A few months ago we abandoned Cable TV and changed to a computer system that downloads programs via Torrent, mostly designed and assembled by my son. My part was acquiring a tri-band OTA antenna system for local TV and FM radio reception and mounting it in the attic with a booster amplifier and cable distribution through the house. To be done soon: fresh install of Win 7 (replace XP Pro) and a new video editing software package I got for Christmas.

I can't call it "fixing" something, but my wife has had a large oak entertainment center for years and years that held a 27" CRT TV. I've been wanting a flat-screen since our old Sony died last year, but she objected to getting rid of the entertainment center.

I found a 50" Panasonic plasma at a deal that was too good to pass up, so I bought it.

She & I talked a bit and we decided that since there's no market for that kind of entertainment center anymore, (this one was about $2,000. new) I could just cut it down and make a TV stand out of it...

I'm not particularly handy with woodworking...but WTF, I decided to give it a try.

I cut the sides and center divider down so that the top would sit on the TV shelf, modified the part that held the stereo components so that I had a couple of shelves in there, cut plugs to cover screw holes, and it turned out pretty well. Not perfect by any means...but pretty dammed good.

(sorry, no before/after pics...too fucking lazy to take them.)

Most importantly...she's happy with the end result.

I replaced some cpvc pipe and fittings that had frozen and burst when it got down to -8° F a couple weeks ago. I haven't turned the water on yet, so I don't yet know if I did a good job :)

nothing exciting, I implemented the UUDeview decoding library so I can strip out and decode PDF files from sendmail and sort/organize them to separate filesystems.

On Tuesday, I repaired the reverb tank on my Fender Blues Junior guitar tube amp. There was a wire the thickness of a hair that had broken. I found the wire, unwrapped one length of wire from the spool and soldered that sucker back to the connector. Now it works like a champ and I saved myself $45 and minimal downtime with no reverb.

Last Saturday I replaced the drive belt on my clothes drier.

On my motorcycle I took off the old headers and slip ons. Replaced with a full stainless steel exhaust. Took out the secondary flies inside the throttle bodies. Installed a power commander (remaps air/fuel ratio) then installed a new map I got from exhaust manufacturer. Very proud of my handy work. Made me feel very manly.

My 'employer' bought a Corvette shell that had run the Rolex race a few years back. The car has had most of the suspension mounts removed as the previous owner was going to convert it to a coil-over car.

We located and welded all those brackets back on. Fortunately, all the parts were still available. They became unavailable shortly afterwards. Timing is everything.

The car is already sold and is being built for a customer.

I say 'employer' because I'm working there part time on an as-needed basis to kill the boredom through the winter.

I built my rabbit a 5-minute house from a cardboard box. As you can see from the pic, he was knocked out by my ingenious design and labeling above his front door with custom sharpie art (his name is horace)

Not exactly a fix but I changed the coolant in my sons truck so I don't have to fix the leaking heater core later. I just wish he would help or watch and learn or somethig....anything.
