Long time lurker, decided to sign up to participate. Been getting into photography over the last year or so. I have not done much post processing. I have played around with a few minor things in Gimp, but I just downloaded the Photoshop and Lightroom trials yesterday to try to learn a little bit before I buy copies of them.

For both of these, I just played around for a while trying out different things until I found what I thought looked cool. That's usually how I pick up things. Play with it until I break it, or I figure out what I am doing with it.

Thanks. If I can get some time, I think I will try to play around with a couple other pictures in here. I have a few of my own that I wouldn't mind seeing what people would do with them. Maybe I will upload them soon.

Nice shot! It was just begging for excessive saturation, so here's what I did with it:

I'm not sure I'm completely satisfied with the results (it's still a bit hazy on the right side and the water is slightly more green than I would like), but it's not bad.

OK, here's a challenge. I actually posted this about a year ago for processing options but I thought I'd toss it in here since we have an official thread now. This is the only known recent photo of my wife's mother, aunt, and grandmother together so even a moderately usable result would be wonderful. Unfortunately, the person who took the picture did not use a flash so it is very dark (easily fixed), very yellow, and EXTREMELY grainy due to high ISO on a cheap point and shoot camera. I'm not expecting miracles, and I have a printed copy of the best result from last year, but I'd love to see what you folks do with it.

Edit: My wife wants a print of this photo of our daughter with her "trademark" grumpy face, but it has some pretty significant red eye. The red in her left eye is easy to remove, but the red in her right eye (behind her hair) is giving me trouble. I'm sure I could do it with layers in Photoshop, but I only have Lightroom. 🙁

If you can get rid of that for me without messing up her hair over the eye I'd be very grateful! 🙂

The noise is from pushing the exposure to +4 in LR. I tried to recover, but there is just too much detail lost.

Try the adjustment brush set on -100 Saturation, this will allow a ton of more control than the "red eye" tool. You can make the brush as big or little as you need to, and even erase (alt key) the adjustments mask if you go too far and hit her hair.

Gimp is a free PS alternative that can do layers, never tried it though.

Camera was a D40 but I'm sure you could get that from the EXIF.
This is Tasha-->Kady-->Heather.
Obviously it needs to be cropped and resized. Eventually I would like it at an 8x10 ratio for a glossy print. The new manager said he was cool with putting up new photos. Too many of the ones they have are generic Hooters pics and not Manassas girls.

Clearly I did not center it well and there is too much dead space on the top half. All three of these girls are equally pretty but some are obviously more photogenic. I dont care much for the warmth in the photo. These gals really arent so cold. I think thats an issue of the flash overdoing it. But without the flash things look like crap.

I would like the skin cleared up on the right girl (Heather). Have been using the Dust & Scratch tool for that sort of thing but obviously its not as good as airbrushing. Also if we could take some of the shine off her chin that would be cool.

Middle girl (Kady) has too much shine. I dont know if thats her makeup or the fact she was in the middle and the flash was pointed straight at her face.

Left girl (Tasha) looks good I think, but she is clearly more tanned than the other two.
Does that screw up my color balance, or do you think its all the wood and orange decoration commonly found in a Hooters establishment?
Also she has relatively sharp features for a young female. I think I need to take a variety of shots with her some day and see what her best angle is.

I use Lightroom since I'm don't have enough time to manual process each photo I take, so I'm sticking with it for your photo. I know that Photoshop will do a better job, but I think Lightroom does a good enough job for a general photo. The only thing I'm not sure about is the brightness, this is on a laptop that has the gamma cranked all the way up.

The changed settings are:
Recovery = 82
Fill Light = 21
Blacks = 5

Brightness = 10
Contrast = 37

Clarity = 20
Vibrance = 20

Point Curve = Medium Contrast

Saturation Red = 24

Luminance Red = 31
Luminance Orange = 29
Luminance Yellow = 45

Noise Reduction Luminance = 21
Noise Reduction Color = 21

I also use the dust filter option to remove two pimples.

First I made the original photo into an HDR using Photomatix, and then I did the rest of the editing in Aperture.

White Balance:
Temp=5935k
Tint=13

Exposure:
Exposure= -0.63
Recovery= 0
Black Point= 1.5
Brightness= -0.05

Enhance:
Contrast= 0.01
Definition= 0.62
Saturation= 0.85
Vibrancy= 0.24

Once again I mixed pale blondes with tanned brunettes and things didnt always work out the way I wanted. Also had some focus issues. I always take at least three shots of the same girl so I have a good one to choose from, but sometimes things dont work out.

Janet is insanely pretty but very camera shy. I had to bribe her with chocolate just to get the pics.

Jen is still pregnant and still having skin issues. But on the bright side her boobs should explode any old day now.

Toni is super babe'o'licous but I dont think I got the best photo of her. Will do a solo full-body shot when I can.

Allison is looking good as always but still pale. She says she has a skin condition and cant tan without getting burned.

FUN FACT:
Janet is only doing this to pay for nursing school. Her real job is driving an ambulance at night.
