In all honesty, the idea of posting on a forum to ask people what songs 'to be depressed to' is about the most ridiculous idea ever.

You're not depressed.

DEICIDE:Scars of the cruxifix!

1. Scars Of The Crucifix

Impale the body, scares of his flesh, hung up to die on the crucifixion, bleeding to breathe, cursing at god...Why!!!!!!!

The glory resurrection; live in wounds of recollection,
Who take his will unreasoned, naivete inside soul defeated?
Lascivious redemption, justify thy vile absence,
Propagate his aggression as you use his words as weapons.

Lies now have you lost, the worthless cause of the crucifixion.
The sanctity, to hang and bleed, and in the form of a human cross.
Blind by prophecy, his bible fiend, a bloody sword of his fantasy.
Tried for heresy, and sacrilege, to bare the scars of the crucifix.

You walk alone with Jesus, in a world of non-believers,
Humiliated savior, Is thy son of heavens failure,
For ever left undone, on the cross for everyone,
His words of god unheard, he is dead and not concerned.

God fatality, the life recedes on the cross of his sign,
Finality, in search of peace, to beg and plead for the end that will be,
The light descends, when suffering, impaled again for your blasphemous lies.
Resented death, his sins confessed, accept the scars of the crucifix.

Sad in your sorrow, withered within, stand in the shadow of all of our sins, you are the son, choke on his blood...Die!!!!!!

!!!! :D

I know I always mention this song anytime a thread comes up:

Closing Time - Semisonic version.

It played many times on MTV while I was going through some stressful stuff in my life.
If anyone knows where I can download (and save) a GOOD mpeg or DivX of the video, I would be very happy.

I agree. Although it depresses me to think that you're too dumb to use the search function to find the thread where more than half of these songs were already suggested.

Saddest song should bring it up in about 2 seconds.

Probably the saddest song I know is the final aria in the Saint Matthew Passion ("Mache dich, mein Herze rein..."). Of course, you've gotta listen to the whole passion and know what they're saying. Chopin is quite the master of sad music and melancholy, but there's also Schubert and Tchaikovsky. Rock/Rap/Modern music always seems so tacky and contrived to me when it comes to sorrow.

as I wrote once before...

Coldplay is that which makes you want to slash your wrists but only to install a zipper, so when you feel really bad again you can listen to their music again and zip your arms back up

yeah...

It's not so much that they're tacky and contrived, it's just that you can't convey sorrow efficiently with guitars and drums. Throw in an orchestra with them and it works SO much better it isn't funny. Hell, or even just add a piano and it works wonders.

And then talented vocalists.

Just about any Morrissey song. And a handful from the Smiths.

Experiment IV by Kate Bush is pretty depressing.

?

There is plenty of good instrumental rock that conveys sadness and sorrow effectively. Like I said above: Mogwai. All instrumental rock. Hell anything under the post rock genre would be sad rock instrumentals, and not the crappy metal or anything, just good melodies.

Muse - Unintended

I challenge anyone to not get all sappy with this song.

Challenge taken and achieved.

I counter the challenge with Shens.

btw I would have just posted the song by itself, but I thought that would take the whole copyright thing a bit too far. I'll be the first to admit most of their videos are pretty crappy.
