Ok, I heard (from a very unreliable source) that ps3 is not going to be a standalone syste, but an addon to ps2. Is that true? Can anyone confirm that?

Approximate Release date?

Estimated Price?

Sony's Scheme

There has been some info floating around for a while. First about six months ago Sony registered playstation3.com and some other stuff. Secondly, they have definately begun work on a new CPU / GPU and that most likely means that PS3 will be a standalone system.

it will be a standalone system. It will be based on a CELL processor with the GSII graphics processor. Dont be surprised to see a harddrive and broadband support built in the box. I would also bet on a dual shock III controller being designed around the current controller. Likelihood of backwards compatibility with PS2 will be high since they did the same with PS1 and PS2. Release date puts it around 2005

Supposed to come out in 2005 EST

and teh processor is rumore to be 100X more powerfull then a 2.5Ghz P4 so thats a 250Ghz Processor.

The storage media is this new thing called "Blue Ray" some super high density DVD type thing

what lawsuit?

btw a processer 100x faster than anything current isn't that impressive come 2005. It would be disapointing is cpu processor didn't maintain their exponential growth rate.
