I have a spare Nortel 450-BT Layer 3 switch laying around that i might use for home or perhaps LAN parties. :)

Here ya go...

Pics of my central closet switch and CCIE rack.

or here to see the Switch vs Hub tests, my guitars, or my cats.....

I'm getting ready to re-rig the cabling in the closet, I'll add pics when I get that done. I'm moving from a "Home Networking" cabinet to a regular wall-mount rack & panels. The fiber trays were too deep for the first WM rack I bought.

:Q

That's a pretty sweet home network setup! Also, those are some sweet guitars you got! Have you had a chance to listen to my "Mucman Rush Guitar Quizes"? My home network is just a bunch of computers, patch panel, and switches underneath a stairway. I am moving in January and I am planning on turning my bunkbed into a network center :) I will post pics when I am done... it should involve at least 5 PCs and lots of structured cabling :).

Wow, very sweet! Do you host your website off of there?

No, I don't host anything. I have (sigh) AT&T cable.

While I have many reasons that would make me feel good b!tching about AT&T, I really can't. Since a while after the @HOME switch, the service has been pretty solid (but with a smaller upload/download cap). I'm pretty sure port 80 is blocked inbound.

I do run about a dozen computers here at home though, for various things (and I just got into the top 5000 for Seti in just under two years - 12,474 units as of this post).

I'm hoping to add one or two Cisco 3550s to the stack by the end of the year.

I also have a rack full of Fore Systems ATM switches & stuff. An AX-200BX, an LE155, a 200BX, a fully-rigged PowerHub 7000, some Cellpath90s ... big box of 155 copper and fiber NICs ... I used to have OC3/STM3 to each computer (except laptops) with an OC12 linking the floors (I live in a townhome). Microsoft made it too big of a PITA to keep up the ATM stuff (it was pretty noisy too) - so I flipped to the darkside and went Ethernet (again). I might take the ATM stuff out to the garage and hook it up again, it keeps the garage warm and gives me a little more scope to play with (the garage is cabled too).

So, there ya go.....

picture of old setup

cisco catalyst 5000 is the core switch, trunk to another 5000 & 2912 in the back bedroom/testing area. main routers for the cable modem are running freebsd with 4 nics(3 copper, 1 fiber), running ipf for the firewall/nat stuff and freevrrpd for redundancy on the rfc1918 side. I don't have a pic of the bedroom because it changed pretty regulary.

I finally found the pics that I took at my last job.. This isn't where I work now - Place actually went out of business. Probably because they let the team I ran spend so much on the network. *grin*

Anyhow..

One of the wiring closets (out of about a dozen), as it was when I got there: Before
Another of the wiring closets after we were done with it: After.

A picture down the length of one of our data centers (this one was only about 5000 square feet) Length
A picture down one of five rows of PC server cabinets: PC Row
A picture down one of the five rows of Network equipment: Network Row

(I didn't bother with the Sun rows - They weren't as nice looking - Just a few E10K's and a bunch of other big iron)

This network had about 4,000 nodes, 20 offices , and about 15,000 SF of data center. Decent sized organization. (New job has 70,000+ nodes at least 100,000 SF of data center and about 2,500 sites)

Paulson, thanks for the pic service!

no prob for the pics service... that's what it's there for!

Granted it's not on the best connection or server, but yet it's still been pretty stable for about 5 months now :)
