This will be a long post, so my apologies in advance. I am thrilled to introduce you all to my crew.
Grace was rescued from an apartment where a 71 yr old lady had over 30 cats. Many of them were really sick and had to be put down, but we managed to save some of them. Grace was really viscious and impossible to place. She was still nursing kittens, so stayed with me, and I decided to keep her and her only two surviving kittens. She is the undisputed, unchallenged matriarch of the feline world.
Martin is one of Grace's babies. He is the kewlest cat on the planet and my daughter's personal favorite. His sister, Molly has found a nice home, with our neighbors.
this little guy was thrown out of a moving vehicle on a highway. He was so tiny that his eyes were not even fully opened yet. My boyfriend saw him land, pulled over and ran across the highway to save him. We have had him for 3 1/2 yrs. now.
Sophie went into the shelter with a sister who was adopted the very next day, but every time someone picked Sophie up and saw she was missing a paw, the put her right back and she was in the shelter without her sister for five months. That broke my heart, and I took her home. They gave her to me for free, cause they knew they could not place her. It took her a few days to learn how to walk again, after being caged for so long. Now, she is the busiest and fastest cat we have, and if someone were to tell her she is handicapped, she would be very suprised!
Lilianne came to our door almost dead. She just showed up one day, crying, but when I tried to get her, she ran away. She was really hurt, but too scared to let me catch her. So, every day for over 5 weeks, I would put her food down and while she ate, I took one step closer. Finally I got her. She was so badly abused! She had cuts and bruises, broken ribs and cigarette burns all over her. They ran over her tail with something until it was (and remains) flat. They tied a piece of string around her tail so tightly that before we could get her, the circulation was cut off and she lost the last two inches of her tail. The vet was not hopeful, but i was. She lived under my stairs for almost 8 months, while healing, coming out only in the middle of the night to eat. She has been here for 2 1/2 yrs, she is just now coming out of her shell.
SweetPea's previous owner's had her for almost nine years then decided they no longer wanted her. So, they dropped her off at a shelter. I was dropping off my monthly donation of paper towels and bleach when I met her and they told me that she was in the cage for over 8 months. So, I took her. She is the biggest biatch on the planet to the other cats, but is a big love baby to humans. She is over 13yrs old now.
Inky was born in my brother in law's mechanic's shop. Homes were found for all his siblings. except him and his sister. His sister was accidently run over by a truck, and that made my father offer Inky a home. But my father is a neurotic 70yr old Italian man

. so, after three months of.... " He leaves hair all over! He plays with his food b4 eating it" complaints, I took Inky. He is HUGE. Not heavy, but just a BIG cat, but a totaly baby.
On another donation run, the following year I met
Robyn She was not being cared for properly, and had licked her stitches until she opened the incision and is was just beginning to get infected. I requested to adopt her and they wanted me to wait until the next day so they could restitch her. So, I went back the next day and while I was waiting for her.....
My boyfriend walked by the cages and
Samantha put her paw out and hooked his t-shirt with one claw. He took her out to love on her a bit, and she did everything but tap dance on him to get a home. She licked and kissed and nuzzled him. She nibbled amd sang to him. We got a two for one deal that day and brought her home.
Please meet
Madeleine and
Katherine.. My sister found them in cardboard box in a supermarket shopping cart, in the parking lot one cold night. We did not know that madeleine was dying until she started foaming at the mouth one night. We rushed her to the vet one night and he (with my daughter's b/f as assistant) preformed emergency surgery and saved her. They were supposed to be temporary, but they are still here.. and now look like this..
maddie and
big kate They have been here for six months so far
And finally here is
healthy Isabel When she showed up at my door, she looked like
this. We have no idea where she came from, but was just in our backyard one day and my daughter fed her. About six hours later, we went to let some of the other cats in and there she was just sitting there staring at the door. We invited her in and she just walked right into the house. She had a hard road, as she had fleas, worms, a fever, a virus and ringworm. But she is fine now.
Pics not shown of the other eight kitties and two dogs we fostered and found homes for last year. We take them in, get them healthy and fixed and all kitties get 3 vaccinations a year. We try to find them homes, but some... for obvious reasons will stay here forever. Many of them are indoor/outdoor models and go out in the morning, come home for lunch and they stay out till the 10:00pm curfew. We have a big fenced in backyard, so they never go further then the garage.

And no matter how many I place, or how long they are here, it is really hard to say goodbye when we find them new homes. Oh yea, it is expensive... we spend between $275-$400. per month on our animals, but it is soooo worth it.
If you are still reading, I hope you are not too bored.
thanks.
