I have "SEE ID" on all my cards. Don't feel bad. I mean, it IS their policy, and I guess technically they can CHOOSE to do what they want. But still, not gonna force me to sign my cards at all. I'm gonna look into it tho. I guess the whole Signature and "See ID" on the card might work.

I have "See ID" on all my credit cards also. I could never write the same signature, so if I had to produce a signature, I'd get rejected cause it'd look different. I've only had the Post Office actually tell me once they couldn't accept it because it wasn't signed.. so I just used it as a debit card [was using a check card].

Well it's part of the terms of the Credit Card. They must be signed.

Hate to tell you too that the SEE ID cards are way easier to use for a thief, if you honestly believe getting an ID is a complicated matter. He can now create any signature he wants.

Yeah, but isn't it still easier for him to just forge a signature he can see on the back of a credit card?

I dont think it really matters.... Target, walmart, Jewell, etc, NEVER turn over my card and compare signatures. They just take it and move on to the next.

My Post Office has had signs on the counters for at least three months that said they will not accept credit cards that say "See ID".

I also don't think it adds one bit of additional protection if your card is lost or stolen.

Exactly.

How many places check ID when they accept a credit card? If they only check if a card is signed, then it could still be stolen. A person could easily sign the card that doesn't have it written on there, or just sign for it in the name on the card and no one thinks twice about it.

Signature or no, most people don't care enough to check ID in the first place. I used to have my signature on my card, but over time it's gotten rubbed off and I can't resign it. Now I'm happy that it happened, because people at least look to see it signed when accepting it and ask me for my ID. I'd rather them be suspicious of me than just take my card, run it through and not even look at the name on the card.

If you come to where I work with a credit card, I don't care if you're buying a pack of gum, if you use your credit card, you best have your ID ready because I'm going to ask for it, whether the card is signed, unsigned, says check ID or whatever.

I agree, 90% of the time the cashier doesnt touch credit cards anymore. Gas stations, Target, walmart, all the grocery stores around here have the terminal right there where the customer swipes the card. Everytime I use those terminals i wonder how many stolen credit card went through this machine today.

Target near me has a new card reader, it sucks the card into the machine (like an atm) and doesn't give it back until it's approved. After that 70-80% of the time the cashier will look at my card, see the sig. and the 'see-id' and ask for my ID.

Walmart, not as often, I think they go by $$$ amount on checking ID's.

Boston Market--if it's under $25 you don't even have to sign the receipt! I think they are not using a cc authority for those amounts, figuring the $$$ they save will cover any fradulent usage. Not sure though... very interesting imo.

kinda related.. credit companies need to move where they put the signature line, it gets torn up over time by all the card readers that are so common now.

Theoretically. Assuming they check at all.
I always sign my receipts "I Am Batman"

I've been doing this for at least a year now and no one has ever said anything...even when they check my credit card

I, too, have See ID on my credit card. I think an ID check is so much more secure than just looking at the signiture...nevermind the fact that no one ever does that anyway.

I guess I will have to sign it evenutally, if someone says something. When I worked in retail, I couldn't accept unsigned Visa or MC, but I never heard anything wrong with "See ID" Sometimes people would just sign it in front of me, and I thought it was all kind of stupid.

I don't sign my cards and I always ask for them to check my ID. Lately most all cashiers have caught on and DO ask.

Reason I don't sign is that someone stole a single card from me that I seldom used. I only knew it was gone when the Shell folks called and asked me why I suddenly charged over $500 in gas. Apparently someone went on a trip to NY and back + side trips. BTW, I didn't have to pay.

he wrote "see ID" on back of the CC..read again...so the retailer has to verify the identity of the CC with an ID in addition.

I will repeat again....if they have your card they can get a fake ID in about 15 mins pretty easy, at least around here....one stop downtown at night to any under 21 nightspot you can find the 'ID' guy.

why not include both your signature and a clearly written "see id"?
doesn't that save everyone headaches?
I'm not seeing what this would accomplish.
If your signature is already on the card why would someone ask to see ID?

I had that happen recently and I was quite offended.

If someone steals my credit card and it is unsigned, he is going to sign it himself.... Hmm... Doesn't seem like it would be useless.
