Actually technically they own the "inside" of the mail box. You may not place anything in there without postage on it or they can take it with them and charge you postage when you go to pick it up at the station.

i dunno, my boy scout troop got in trouble for hanging food donation bags off mailboxes.

we have centralised mailbox and the city puts a recycle bin right below the mail box with a sign that says junk mail only.

This way I don't even take the junk mail home :biggrin:

sounds like a hell of a way for identity thieves to gather info. no way would i put my junk mail in there. i shred all of it.

They do that around here, and apparently no one cares. I don't know what the official word is, but I assumed the outside of the box was kosher.

Junk mail should be illegal, it is a blatant waste of resources. It just goes straight in the recycling. I just check quickly for those nasty pre-activated credit cards so I can shred them.
