I have a Radeon 8500DV, other specs included in sig.

I'm using the 3286 drivers, and have not seen any crashes or freezes due to the card.

Under what circumstances are you expecting/seeing this behaviour?

Doesnt crash on me at all. The only games i play are Wolfenstein and Counterstrike. I've also run 3dmark2001 on it a ton of times, works perfect.

Works great for me. Using the latest 6043 drivers and the system specs are as follows..

Asus P4B266-C (i845D)
Northwood 1.6A @ 2.56ghz (16 x 160)
512mb Crucial PC2100
Philips AE
Hollywood Plus
Netgear NIC

:)

The 6043 drivers really boost OGL performance.. :)

Is it running at default speed??
are you overclocking it??

What drivers are you using?
Beta or official drivers?

HikkiFan,
If your 8500 is locking up, maybe you should try Radeonator 1.70. I've heard it can fix some 8500 lockup issues... however, it is beta, so keep that in mind. Links below.

Agree with Insane3d. The 6043 drivers (XP) really improve OGL performance! I was quite amazed at the improvement, in both my 3dmark scores and games, in general. Also works great on my older Radeon 32MB DDR card! If you haven't updated your drivers in awhile, this is the set that should make you do it! Just make sure you do a "clean" install of the drivers, otherwise, you won't see the improvements. Here's a link explaining how to do a clean install:

No problems yet and I just love the card!:D Using 6025 drivers. Gained 300 points in 3dmark 2001se with the new drivers.

My points are only 7900 with the current rig though, people are getting higher with similiar specs though :frown:.

and some other stanard crap. no freezes.

EDIT: btw... for those who play CS... do u use opengl or d3d? i disabled smoothvision, and pumped up anisotrophic filtering to the max. with opengl, i got pretty much 60fps constant. gameplay is smooth. when i use d3d, i get 98fps constant, but gameplay seems choppy. wierd....

Had it a little over a week, but it has been getting a ton of use... not a problem yet. windoze ME, 9009 driver, 1g athlon oc'ed to 1.25.

I have been playing tons of Q3 plus varying amounts of Alice, max payne, RTCW, MOHAA, Tribes2, NFS5... I had to tweek the direct3D settings for some games, but other than that not a hitch.

I have run 3dmark2001 countless times including looped to test my new copper proc sink, and it has never had a problem on it and runs all the games, skipping none.

When playing CS, you should ONLY use OpenGL. D3D for Half Life games isn't very good... 60fps seems kinda low for CS. Are you sure it isn't just the Win2k/XP refresh rate problem?? I get around 60 fps in Win98se with my old Radeon 32mb DDR and anisotrphic filtering on the highest setting for that card.

i am using win98se. i used to get about the same fps (~60) with my radeon vivo. only difference is now i set anisotrophic filtering to 16x... which does wonders for image quality. but i thought i should be getting better fps tho. whats the deal about refresh rate problems?

EDIT: fixed the problem by disabling "vertical sync" in my display properties :) 98fps goodness :D

16x... damn.. :p Too bad I have a GF3 Ti200 hehe. For some reason, I get these flashy textures in CS on some maps.. specifically Assault. It's not just me either... a lot of people I've talked to who have nvidia cards have the same thing.

The refresh rate problem is just something in Win2K and XP where your refresh rate is capped at 60Hz when you play OpenGL games.. I'm not sure if D3D is affected. Basically, you're then capped at 60fps because of the 60hz refresh rate.

fps_max 100 is the command to uncap the FPS limit in CS btw
