I have a AX7 Heatsink on a AMD XP 2000 and i want to get rid of my DELTA FAN LOL .. LOUD!!!!.. its effective but LOUD has heck !

I bought a case of NMB 80mm fans awhile back; they don't move much air, but they're only 21dB; PN is 3110KL-04W-B10. That's for quiet case cooling; for processors, I've found that these are quite nice.

Might want to ask the mods to move it to Cases and Cooling.

From everybody I've spoken to, relatively cheap, smart and effective cooling without shattering your ear drums is in the form of ThermalTake Volcano 7 and 7+. Everybody I've known to use them, loves them! Here's a review for you, very comprehensive selection.

I have a cooler called Silverado with my Athlon XP. Effective and relatively silent, comes with several volt options to regulate efficiency/loudness. 🙂

The Volcano 7 and 7+ are very good. I currently use a Volcano 7+ to cool my P4 1.6A and a Volcano 7 to cool my T-bird 1.33GHZ and my g/f's XP2000+. The heatsink on these coolers is first rate. However, these hsf's are rather loud, mostly due to the high rpm fan that usually comes on them. BUT, for your application the Volcano 7 is easily modded to make it STEALTH. The Volcano 7 uses a standard size case fan, which means that all you need to do is find a quiet case fan that blows a lot of air if you wanna make it quieter. At my local comp show, they had some (I forget the name) clear case fans with blue LED's inside the hub. These spin at about 2800 rpm and are really really quiet. They also create a significant airflow (about the same as the stock volcano fan). So I took the heatsink apart and changed the fans, and the XP2000+ still runs at the same temp. Plus, now the heatsink looks cool through the case window because the fan is clear and the "Tt" cutout on the fan cover on the heatsink lights up BRIGHT BLUE! 🙂

Another good substitute would be the Cooler Master fans because they are quiet and come with a speed adjustment potentiometer so you can control how loud it is. With a combination of this heatsink and a quiet fan, you should be able to make something that cools very well and is no louder than your other case fans/video card fan.

Or you could just overclock it 1000x and sink it into a can of liquid nitrogen. 😀

just solder a rheostat onto your delta! you can keep your temps low in the summer but at the same time able to adjust the speed to slow it down when you dont need your temps to be low.....or go watercooling!

i too have a volcano 7 and it is very loud. excellent job with my xp1700 but it is very very loud. it sounds like an airconditioner. but i don't mind as long as my baby is being kept fresh. plus, a good rock tune will drown out the sound 🙂 .

i have this el cheapo, enlight socket 478 fan on my cpu. its super quiet. the intel retail fans, are practically silent also.

What size fan does that hs use? In the AT Socket A roundup, the Papst 8412NGL is rated as a very quiet unit. It's a 80mm fan, so you'll need a hs with a bracket or adapter for that size.
