No, but my best friend from high school was working in one of those choppers that day.

I never found that out until I went to my class reunion a year ago last Aug.

He was there, and I was at El Torro when they brought the refugees to Cal.

Of the two of us, I had it better.

It was staged.

The original flag that went up was too small for everyone to see. A larger one was ordered up Mt. Surabachi and this photo was born. Still awesome nonetheless.

My self centeredness drives me to post this pic..Times Square VJ Day..
Dad was in the Navy,mom was a nurse, I was born less than a year later No those aren't my parents..But close.

As a child the pics of the H-Bomb test at Bikini Atoll left a lasting impression, not a good one either.
